I have upgraded my iMac8,1 to mountain lion from Snow leopard.
Everything seems fine, except Safaris having momentary freezes, but mainly my desktop icons appear very large.
When looking at sys prefs/display the highest screen res I can now choose is 1650x1050, the installed Radeon HD2600Pro is capable of much higher resolutions, and I am sure I had 1920x1200 under snow leopard.

Does anyone know how can I reset my screen resolution under Mountain Lion?

What is the native resolution of your monitor? You are not able to run a higher than native resolution.

8,1 is 24" I believe, that should indeed be 1920x1200.

Can't say I have any advice off hand other than system preferences -> Display, and play with the "best for built in display" and "scaled" settings.
