Long hairline scratch. Noticeable on certain angles with the screen off. No idea how I got it. I baby the hell out of it and hasn't left the case since day one. I'm guessing the microfiber cloth I use had a sand particle on it and scratched the screen as I was wiping it. IMO, a screen protector is necessary.

Very unfortunate, but you must have had something nasty in that cloth to scratch the screen. My iPhone 3GS spends every day in my pocket and gets jostled around like hell, much like the 3G and 2G before it, and I never picked up a single scratch. I expect the iPad to be the same.

The weird thing is it looks almost as if it's on the underside of the screen. Is that even possible?

That stinks! Try having a Genius look at it and if it is indeed under the screen then they may offer you an exchange. Good luck! :D

Maybe it was something always under the screen and you just didn't notice it until recently?

Bingo. Not to mention you say you have to look for it at "certain angles" to see it. Sounds like something that was probably there from manufacturing, and you just now noticed it.

Stop looking for scratches and stop worrying. The iPhone and iPad screens are very scratch resistant. I know people who have had their iPhone fall out of their pocket and slide across a street outside, only to have the screen remain unscratched.

If you baby it I highly doubt you scratched it.

very true if only the back of the phone was as scratch resistant. I've had my 3GS since like Sept and have never put a case on it. In my pocket everyday I've even dropped it a bunch of times (terrible I know). Screen is still perfect back looks pretty bad tho lol.

Never know if that problem will grow, and at a premium price, they can afford the exchange....you can't.....

There is a video floating around where they purposely try and scratch the screen with a nail and failed. I doubt a piece of dirt in your microfiber cloth did anything. Screen protector is uneccesary in my opinion.

Yeah i found a small barely noticeable scratch on my iPad today. It's inevitable. Even my 3 month old 3GS has some small scratches, and i take excellent care of it. You cant get to worked up over it. If you expect to keep it 100 percent scratch free, then when you do finally end up getting a scratch you'll be devastated.:) Can't baby it too much. Its meant to be used, after all.

I donut a piece of dirt in your microfiber cloth did anything.

mmmmmmmm donutsssss.

And yes, I too think that screen protectors are unnecessary. Ha one on my iphone for a while, kind of couldn't stand the feel of it and liked the glass. I mean, that is the way they were meant to be used anyway or else they would have put some sort of anti-scratch anti-oil layer on the glass..........

Can you feel the cut? Try running your finger nail over it. If you can't feel it, there is the strange possibility that it could be under the screen. I wouldn't see how, but it could be. Take it to the Genius Bar and demand satisfaction.

Hahah I guess my thumbs were too fat for the iPad screen. I'll change it to don't instead of donut

Definitely can't feel the cut. It's no biggie. If something were to break down and I had to exchange it, the nice gal at the Invisible Shield store will reinstall a new shield for free.

Grit from life can definitely scratch the glass. I put a little one on my aquarium wiping it with a towel that had been on the floor (and I assume it was a bit of sand or something).

I love the Apple case but cautioned my wife that when you open it all the way completely around so that the cover is against the back of the iPad, when you set it down flat you are putting the microfiber against whatever you set it down on. When you close it, that is against your screen. You definitely don't want to put it on something dirty.
