My brother lives about 15 miles from me and recently bought a new 27" iMac, he is used to Windows and doesn't know a thing about mac. Rather than driving over there the fact he gets home late. He doesn't live in the best area. What is the best way to screen share him, Apple ID, Using a IP address under remote login or remote mgmt in the sharing pane? Would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Use iCloud messages on both macs. You can initiate screen sharing from there. Good luck!

i tried that. Unless there is a setting I'm missing. What i did was I text him on iMessages on the Mac, he responded. I highlighted his response and the "invite to share screen" was grayed out. Now i looked again, both invite and share are on. Do i invite to share or ask to share screen? does it have to a several line conversation for it to work? Does remote login have to be enabled?

You don’t need remote login (that’s ssh) or any other settings. You want to invite him to share, or have him click the share screen button on his end. Should just work, with audio.
