Heres a question, I dont think my iPhone did this at the beginning but its for sure doing it now.

Lets say you receive a text on your phone and you get a preview of it on your screen. You then slide your lock button and it will go to the SMS screen and sometimes, it just takes it 5 seconds or so to go into the screen. You see the silver/gray back drop of the SMS screen but nothing pops up on screen and then suddenly comes on.

This can happen even if your into the phone and you touch SMS and it just takes it a while to load.

Ive also done the reset before so its not due to few apps being on (holding down the home button for a bit)

Not sure but mine hesitates a little bit too but I dont think 5 seconds. FYI, holding the home button down to "close" apps is an urban legend sorta thing until someone can actually prove it does anything. I've tried it and notice no differences in anything at all. Even if it did work, when loading a needed app it will slow its launch, no matter its flash based memory.

Do you by chance have a bunch of SMS messages stored on the phone? On my Mac iChat gets rather slow to open when I have too many (250+) chat logs stored in the log folder. Maybe something similar is happening.

And I assume you updated to 1.0.1? If not, maybe that may help - not sure.
