I recently got my new iPhone 7+ and I am loving it. But I have encountered this thing that I don't know what's it's used for and so it annoys me to no end.

When ever I double tap my home button everything in my screen with shift downward and it will just display my home screen background?

If anyone knows what this is, or knows how to use it. I would love to find out.

- Photo attached of what I mean.

Thanks

Edit - it's not a double click more of tap lightly.

^^^ What they said. It's been around since the 6 Plus. It's one of those things that a lot of podcasters took the pee out of Apple for at the time, saying it proves they shouldn't have done a gigantaphone.

Welcome OP to 2015 since this is an iOS 9 feature and works fantastically for one handed operation.

Thank you all,

I have only just upgraded from the 5 to the 7+ so it has been anyone me quite a bit, and I will definitely be disabling it.

Thanks for the help.

It also let you pull down notifications centre more easily with one hand.

To be fair, most people probably forget until they accidentally double tap the home button and go "oh FFS, not again!!!!"

Not me. Using it everyday.

Hence 'most' not 'everyone' ;)

I never use it, intentionally anyway. I've not got particularly big hands but I find reachability just plain weird. I just keep forgetting to disable it.

It just doesnt work atleast for me - i cant imagine how anyone can use it either. For example if you use Flipboard - it doesnt work at all with the app. Any app using the same ui and touch controls fail to work with the function. Other apps - scroll scroll scroll and scroll more. Not for me.

Probably because it works for others and they can use it to reach things one handed at the top in an easier manner when/if needed.

I edited an example... yes i know you can scroll apps up and down, but scrolling photos etc is ackward. I cant imagine using it anything else than to plain text.

Not quite sure it's necessarily always useful in all different apps, but certainly in various ones where some controls might be on top to use those controls, or to have an easier time getting to Notification Center, or to reach some app icons or folders at the top of one of the home screens, etc.
