Screen stays black when trying to install Win7??

I have the new 2011 MBA and instal it with an external drive but when it restarts to instal Win7 the screen just stays black. Is that suppose to happen or what should I do

A little more information would be helpful. How are you trying to install Windows 7? Are you using BootCamp Assistant? Are you using a bootable USB key that BootCamp Assistant creates? Is your Windows 7 install disc a disc or an ISO image? At what point during the install does the screen go "black"?

No, going black is not normal...

I instal it with an external drive and DVD. It goes black right at the beginning. If the drive isn't connected it says that theres in no bootable drive but when I connect it, it just stays black.

I've installed Windows 7 on the new MacBook Air 4 times in the last 24 hours. I used the bootable USB key that BootCamp assistant created. I used the same USB key every time, and the installs went smoothly. All the files needed to do the install, including the Win7 drivers needed for the Air, are automatically downloaded and copied onto the USB key. Once the USB key is created, you don't need the Win7 install disc anymore.

Do you have a USB key handy you can try?

So how do I switch the partition to boot on the MBA to create one? The screen just stays black since it now tries to boot from the other partition without an OS.

Hold down the option key while you reboot. The first time you start, select the Windows DVD. Once it starts installing, then when it reboots, hold down the option key but then select the Windows partition.

Note that before you can tell the DVD to install Windows onto the Boot Camp partition, you have to tell it to format the partition. Boot Camp Assistant creates the partition, but it doesn't format it.

Thanks, that finally did it! But weired why it wouldn't do that from the begining
I had no problem installing it on the iMac.
