screen was black after waking

When I hit a key to wake from sleep, I heard the computer come on, but my screen did not light up at all and didn't respond to any keystrokes as far as I could tell. I tried hitting the brightness button to see if I shut it off, but it didn't do anything. After forcing a restart, it seems to be working now, but I'm a bit concerned. Anyone familiar with this behavior?

What computer?

ADC Monitor?

LCD or CRT?

Because if it's a PowerMac with an ADC monitor, check the cable.

If it still keeps going off, you may have to reinstall the card.

If it's an LCD, check to see if the backlight is off and the LCD still working.

Of course it may have nothing to do with the display, and this is the first sign of the HD going bad.

I've had problems like that a couple of times with PowerBooks, usually all that I have to do is close the lid so it goes back to sleep, and then reopen it. If you don't have a laptop, you can try pressing control-eject and then the "s" key, which should put it to sleep.

Happened to me once. I rebooted my comp and it never happened again.

My PowerBook does that on occasion, just shut the lid or you might have to do a hard shutdown and all will be fine again.

It is an Alu Powerbook 12". Waking up normally again, hopefully an isolated occurrence.

I have had this same problem on occasion ever since I upgraded to Tiger, but only with the following sequence of events:

1) Running Tiger with my PB connected to an external monitor.
2) Put the computer to sleep.
3) Disconnect monitor.
4) Wake computer from sleep, without an external monitor.

As noted by others, if I close the lid again and wait for it to go back to sleep, it'll wake up just fine the second time. The reverse sequence (PB in standalone mode, go to sleep, connect monitor, wake) is never problematic. This problem never occurred under Panther.

A bug report has been filed with Apple.
