ok i asked this in my other topic but nobody is replying

i have noticed faint geyish lines going from left to right on my screen, its very noticeable at the startup loading screen and on light backgrounds

is this just how it looks on the lcd or is this a fault with the screen ?

Bring it to store and compare to floor model.

its a bit difficult, its a large computer and my nearest store is about 7miles away

that seems like a display or video card problem, you should take that into the store :p another excuse to get the new ones when they come haha

i called applecare tonight and they went through some steps to reset my logic board i think, but then they said they couldnt assist any further on the phone and that I should make an appointment at a genius bar,

what will likely happen if it is faulty, will they fix it or will it get replaced

If the device is still under warranty (original or extended via AppleCare) then you're covered . . . otherwise, LCD or logic board repair by Apple is another word for replacement at a price beyond the actual cash value of a working Mac.

I had the same 'greyish lines' on my 24" alum iMac and took it in for a new display...brought it home and plugged it in only to find it is now really bright on the left, not so much on the right.

So I guess it's back to the Esso first for another 30.00 worth of gas for the 2 hr drive to the Apple authorized repair center. Hopefully it won't take another week to get it back again...AND it will be fixed properly this time.

hmm

riht but do you think because mine was bought 3 days ago they would just replace it, i cant afford to have them take it away to fix it i use my computer constantly

Then you must do like a friend of mine does, call and complain, make up stuff, whatever it takes and whatever moral level you are prepared to go too..

What did you have for a computer before this one? Why can't you use that one while yours is getting fixed/replaced?

I sold my old pc on a sunday morning and bought the mac in the sunday afternoon

OK i just got home from work and turned on my imac, i heard the bong but the screen stayed blank, I could hear the hard drive working and when i pressed the volume i can here the beep noise, so turned off off and on again but it was the same, of and on once more and it came on fine but the grey lines are still there....so do you think it has a faulty graphics card

sounds like a bad inverter to me or the bulbs are bad. Its most likely the inverter for the LCD

right so i have an appointment tomorrow with a genius at 2pm so can i just ask them for a replacement imac seeing as this one is less than 1 week old instead of having to wait if they want to try fix it

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20)

Since you're within 14 days they'll probably image your current system and copy it to a new iMac. I've personally had to do that twice with my iMac. They shouldn't give you a problem and it should take only a couple of hours max.

well i have absolutely nothing personal on this mac i have only installed adium and thats it so i dont think they would have to copy anything for me, so you think having it replaced will be ok

I dont think its up to you, you may have to politely demand a refund or an exchange. If you go with the "please fix this" attitude they may do just that, try to fix it instead of replacing it.

oh no i'm not going to be abusive i would just rather get it replaced before my 14 days are up and get one that doesnt have the screen issue and also like i said i ant go without the computer if they want to fix it as its used constantly for work and i dont have another computer to use

WOW

have to say i am impressed, boxed up my imac last night to take it in today for my appointment with an apple genius. I had to wait about for a while but when i got served they asked what issue i was having, so I told them about the grey lines across my screen and the woman looked puzzled but another employee heard me and just came over and picked up my box and said don't worry I'll go get a new one, I had o tell him to open the box so he could see the mac was still perfect condition, he just glanced and went and got me a brand new one

needless to say I am very happy :D
