Screensaver help

When I open up system preferences and go to desktop and screensaver and then to screensaver, the box closes and i get a message saying "System preferences has closed unexpectedly" with the options to either report, reopen or close it. I have tried restarting my computer but it did not work.

Is there any way to fix this?

I have the new iMac with the intel processors by the way.

This would be something where repairing permissions may possibly work.

To do that:

1. Double Click on your hard drive

2. Double click on Applications

3. Double click on Utilities

4. Double click on Disk Utility

5. Select your HD in the left hand column by clicking on it ONCE

6. Click on the button below that says Repair Permissions and let it go all the way through.

7. Try it again.

Did you add any preference panes, screen savers, etc???

Well I am using the iTunes artwork screensaver. I didn't have to add that though, it was already there. And what is a preference pane?

Ok...Hmmm....

Have you tried deleting the system preferences preference? That is located:

1. Double Click on your hard drive

2. Double Click on your Home Folder (ie. username)

3. Double Click on Library (NOT the Library folder just inside your HD!!!)

4. Double Click on Preferences

5. Find this file: com.apple.systempreferences.plist and delete it

6. Try it again.

wow that didn't work either. I went back into that preferences folder after i tried all your steps and that file you told me to delete was back. Is that normal?

wait, when i went to the disk utility thing before, you told me to click on my hard drive on the left hand side. There are two things there : 233 GB maxtor and the it says Macintosh HD...what one should i click?

would anything bad happen if i did repair disk on the maxtor?

also, what does verify disk do? should i try that?

verify disk checks for more physical type problems (although not actually physical - i'm stupid and lack the proper terminology =) ). It couldn't hurt to verify just to make sure, but that is probably just going to come back and say everything is fine.

my guess is that this is just an intel bug.

i dont know, it worked fine until i went into to edit the screensavers specific options like how fast it goes, etc.
