Hi

just wondering if anyone has managed to get the cool appletv screensaver to work on a standard mac?

Martin

I have it on my mac but only when i have invoked appleTV and left it for a while. So probably not what you are looking for.

Which one in particular are you looking for, because if it just the apple logo moving around then it is just a .qtz

i'm looking for the album art/photos one that spins around! its so good and would look really cool on my macbook.

Surely someone has managed this?!

I'm not sure about pictures, but go to apple>system prefs>Desktop/screen saver>iTunes Artwork and at first it will scroll through it, but then it will go through the wall and then the albums will spin. Is this what you wanted??

i like that screensaver, but it's nothing compared to the 3d version on apple tv. There must be someone out there who can get this on a mac?!

It requires core animation. So unless you have an ADC account with Leopard installed, do not think about it. You'll be happy to know it is on Leopard beta, so I'm sure it will be on the final release.

so if it requires core animation, how can appletv which runs 10.4.6 TIGER have it?! :)

Same question I immediately thought of. I guess appleTV has the necessary libraries to run the screen saver. Been trying to make floatingphotos.qtv work for sometime on my PB as well.

Anyone have any ideas about this? I'd love to get the 3D photos screensaver on my mac.

QTV - An AppleTV-like Screen Saver for Mac OS X

Hi,

I've just finished writing my own version of the AppleTV screen saver called QTV. After lots of searching I couldn't find anybody that had a working version that actually did the same stuff the real AppleTV version did. QTV will work on both Tiger and Leopard (10.4 & 10.5) and has a random array of photos that you specify floating vertically across your screen at varying 3D depths and moving at varying speeds while periodically rotating as a group. My version also allows you to optionally have a glimmering sun cast it's glow across the entire scene. You control everything thru various settings including: speed of front, middle and rear photo scrolling, the folder to search for images in, spin to the left or right, cast shadows from front and middle photos, the rotation interval speed, and wether to show the glowing sun or not.

You can read about it and download it at my website:

I'm sorry to revive an infinitely old thread, but has anybody tried this screensaver on Snow Leopard? Does it work? Or, has the famed iTunes album art screensaver that was shown during the Leopard keynote already been reproduced successfully?

I've tried it on SL and no luck (unless I am doing something wrong).
It shows up in the screensaver preferences but when I select it it just crashes the preferences app.

I'd love this to work though. This is the last thing I need to make me 100% content with my Mac Mini as an HTPC. Its the one thing I miss from when I used an AppleTV.

I believe its open source. Maybe somebody with Quartz Composer experience can modify it to work on SL.
