Screenshot Markup not auto selected

(Every release brings some BS that changes something little that I use every day ...)

When I Command+Shift+4, drag an area I NOW (since Ventura) have to click markup #1 and then click the tool I want #2 every fk... time 🤪

Anyway to have it like Monterrey where the Markup actually remembers that I have the pen selected so when I take a screenshot I can just mark-it-up?

Interesting to hear that's how it worked in Monterey. I'm pretty sure in Preview you always had to select the annotation tool even in Monterey, so it's not exactly unheard of, but it's indeed frustrating when an upgrade goes backwards, even in a small way.

I use screenshots and highlighting on an hourly basis and this has messed up with the flow I'm using. And especially since at WWDC 2018 they've clearly made this point clear -- you get an accelerated workflow right into markup.

@MrWeenus It's making me crazy too. For my work I have to use screenshots and take notes daily. Why add two more clicks? I see no reason to make the change. At the very least, allow me to change the preferences.

If I figure anything out, I'll post it here.

Still annoys me every time I markup a screenshot...which is 20x a day.

Mr. Federighi must be smoking that good good. They've fixed an annoying bug with Apple TV and Mac, but broken Continuity/Handoff in the process.

Also, screenshots are still not fixed.

I'm honestly thinking of not updating my software this year...

screenshot plops itself onto the desktop as it's always done.
then i drag to (notes, pages, bean, iMessage or wherever to use …
i'm currently with a M2 Air.
wife's older intel Air running ventura also has no issues with this method.
I'd say the Markup app is at fault here - not Apple
