So, I'm putting this here with the vain hope that people will agree and we can all send the same suggestions into Apple (which may make them take note).

I'm a parent, and ScreenTime is very useful but has some usability issues that effectively stem from this being built on the restrictions function rather than the 'ask to buy' function.

  • You can only set a 4-digit PIN, which is deemed insecure by Apple if you try that on the iPhone itself - my suggestion is that they change this to allow a complex password to be set
  • Responding to requests doesn't support FaceID or TouchID so you have to enter the code in each time
  • There is no option to change the downtime settings for today only (or pause downtime for 12 hours, useful when the kids are on an early/late flight and want to watch their movies or play a game)
  • There is no option to set the time allowed to use the device, only per app
These requests are being logged, but unless there's enough of us sending in the requests during the feedback phase it'll never happen.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions?

For # 2, are you saying when your child sends you a download request, you cannot use FID or TID to to approve the download? If so, something is goofy on your end because mine does it just fine. Child chooses app. Clicks get. Enters passcode. I get request on my device. Click approve. FaceID authenticates, and I’m done. App automatically begins downloading on child’s device.

I’d agree that they need a bit more broad control over time frames. I also think the method of choosing individual apps is rather cumbersome as it mainly does it by category which is silly.

Thanks, I’m talking about requests for more time. The issue is that Apple to build ScreenTime on Restrictions rather than ask to buy.
