I ordered a 1.8 (now 2.0) MBP CTO with 7200rpm drive and iWork, on Jan 12, at 7am, with Applecare, and an additional power supply.

All along I've had a Feb 15th estimated ship date. I've done nothing but wait patiently for my order to ship. I've made no changes to my order. Apple even charged me on 2/12 for Applecare, and I didn't complain.

Today I checked my order status yet again, to see if it shipped and this is what I see:

My extra powersupply is missing, and now my ship date is March 21st! WTF?!

I just got off the phone with Customer Service, and I'm being told: "Sorry for the inconvience" No help. No explanation. "I'll check with my supervisor." Still nada.

I'm postively sick. I just ordered today, a ton of gear to go along with this machine... another gig of ram, a brief case, bluetooth keyboard, 20" LCD, etc.

Is there anything I can do? This was going to be my first Mac.

If you read "When exactly is the MBP shipping?" thread you will realize that you completely are not alone and that many others have this same ship date. So I'm not surprised at all and at their website right now it says you will be waiting that long for shipping. The only problem I see with your order is where your power supply went. The only people who have their MBP's shipping now or soon are the ones who ordered at the very beginning of January. There is a massive demand for these Core Duo chips.

Call again

It appears that there might be a bigger demand for these systems than originally planned and combined with them upgrading the whole line to faster proccessors, the MBP are going to take longer to ship. Although, there are others having this problem, I would call again and first take care of the power supply issue. Then keep nagging about the shipping date. In the long run, that might just be a save estimate Apple has put on your order, but the MBP might come sooner like in early March. Hang in there....Mac OS X is worth it and that laptop is an awesome design packed with power.

I ordered Jan 12th! I've been reading that thread from the begining. People who ordered last week are getting March 21st ship dates. I had a 2/15 ship date from the start.

It would be one thing if I changed my order, but I waited patiently, only to find out hours after I comitted to buying a bunch of **** to go with my soon to arrive Macbook, that I have another entire month to wait.

Large demand is not my problem. I ordered Jan 12th specifically to avoid that problem. Now, if I ordered today, I'd probably have the same ship date.

Apparently it is. Other than the missing power unit, I don't see how apple "screwed" you any harder than many of the other people with MBP's on order. I don't quite understand what you're expecting, or did you just need to vent?

If you want us to be apologists for Apple, coming to the wrong site.

Sorry it's taking so long, but join the club. It's a corporation; obviously they are giving you extra bang for your buck, so relax. You'll get yours along with everyone else. By April you won't even remember -- just like how a woman never remembers how hard it was giving birth to her baby.

The same thing has been happening for YEARS. When will people understand that when Apple says a product will begin shipping in a month+, the supply lines are always low. Don't order a bleeding edge system and not expect delays.

It just shows how much anticipation Macs create for people, however he has been waiting for a month too. Since this is your first Mac I gather that you are also not used to waiting long for a computer, unfortunately when it comes to Apple shipping time has always been long with new systems. But we all think with the move to Intel that supply can be met quicker, so I think there are some factors here that may be causing this delay.

1. Intel has had to meet a bigger demand than thought.

2. The upgrade to the new chips last week.

3. Macs with Intel were released 6 months early. (The MBP models at MWSF 06 were still in-production models)

But then again for someone that has spent about $3000 and have nothing to use in return for that money at the moment is frustrating.

This always happens to their new revision machines. I waited a month for my iMac G5 and 2 months for my iMac G4 (when both of those machines were first released). Though they did not change my initial ship dates from 1 month to 2 months later. I think you have a reason to be upset. Maybe you should call and express your "upsetness" and see if you can get a discount or maybe a free iPod. After all, they did initially promise February shipping for these.

Hey it's worth a shot. Usually, people that have called Apple with a certain persistant upset attitude have gotten something in their favor. Keep calling and see what happens.

But the fact of the matter remains that people who ordered after him, such as myself, who ordered on Feb 1st, have a ship date of March 8th. (although I did go with the 1.83 Version.)

I would call up again and ask why the long delay, I haven't seen others with delays like this. Be firm, I don't know if they can do much, but you do have a right to be pissed. If not check local resellers.

It's my first Apple, but not the first time I've ever been in line to get something... It's not like I slipped a week or two, I'm at the back of the line. Can you imagine camping out a month in line, only to have a few thousand other people cut in front? Many people who ordered weeks after me will get their machine before me.

What's really pissing me off is that I made a lot of plans, ordered a lot of stuff, deferred other purchases because of this order, and now I'm left high and dry with a very bitter aftertaste. I wanted to be an Apple fanboy. I loved my old NeXT workstation. It makes a $3000 purchase seem a lot more easy to justify when everything goes smoothly. I wouldn't be half as mad if I could just cancel the order and walk away... but then I'd have a ton of stuff to return and I'd eat all that shipping.

I think the least I could expect is some acknowledgement from Apple's customer support that they screwed up... It's pretty clear they goofed the order (why else did the power supply disappear?) are they really powerless to remedy this? Over the years I purchased $30-40k in equipment from Dell for my former company, and they never jerked me around like this.

Arggh. I hate whining, and I apologize for it. I just wish there was something I could do.

lol has apple been on time for shipping any new product...they're history for that is in the red.

c'mon it's apple's way. we still love them :)

oh another note..i wish i was getting a new laptop..even if it does arrive in march :(

I managed a free bluetooth wirless mouse out of 'em and my order was only delayed until the 28th:eek:. Call talk to them and if one wont help you call again until you get something free.

Call and berate them until the extra power supply reappears.

As for the ship date? That seems extreme, since I ordered the $2499 model + 7200 RPM drive the same day as you, only without iWork, and mine appears to be due to ship tomorrow. (The charge on my credit card just went through today.) Waiting an extra month for iWork preload is nuts. Tell them you'll take it without iWork if it will speed up the order, and just go buy iWork separately.

Denovich, you have every right to be pissed. My buddy ordered one 2 weeks ago and has an estimated shipping date of March 15th. Having ordered one in January and seeing that people who dragged their feet are getting theirs earlier would burn my ass. We are talking 2 months after the ordering date for the OP. That is ridiculous. In my opinion, if you are going to advertise a product then have it in stock. Don't tell me they weren't expecting this kind of demand. I don't know what to tell you besides just hang in there, I guess.

Called back this morning. After explaining my situation, and a lengthy time on hold I was transferred to a "Specialist". I assume that is an Apple euphemism for hardass. Combative from the opening "hello", she told me no-way/no-how no matter who I talked to I wouldn't get an earlier ship date. She said that because of the "upgrades" everyone's order has been changed. I was again offerred free expidited shipping. Thanks a lot.

I cancelled the order. I can't wait another month, and even if I did I wouldn't be happy with it when I got it. Apple has permanenly lost a customer.

Good luck with yours.

I'm not sure if you'll be back to read this, but I think you made a mistake. Yes, Apple may have not exactly been forthright. But having a kneejerk reaction and cancelling your order doesn't exactly "stick it" to Apple. It just bumps everyone else up a spot. And who knows, it may have shipped earlier. And what about all that "stuff" you ordered? I have a feeling you'll be regretting this decision in April ...

I think you should have hung in there. Since you cancelled your order maybe you can get it from the Apple Store. Mac OS X is a great experience and one that you should not give up on.

It's not a kneejerk reaction. I did the math... Total cost of Macbook Pro + opportunity cost of waiting another month + cost of my irratation + cost of my pride (supporting a company that failed to deliver even the most basic customer care) = more than I was willing to pay.

Of course if you do the other math, the MacBook Pro ends up being a much better choice, even with the wait:

Total cost of Dell + cost of searching for spyware + cost of searching for viruses + cost of time spent erasing viruses and spyware + cost of time spent frequently re-installing Windows + cost of time spent investigating Linux + cost of time spent installing Linux + cost of time spent switching back to Windows because you don't like Linux + cost of time spent searching for viruses + ........

You had a bad experience. It happens, but you can't blame a Apple, especially when it comes to new products. Every company in the world does terrible with new products, because no matter how much time you spend investigating, you can never accurately predict how well a product will do once it hits the market.

On the other hand, Apple does especially bad with new products. 17" PB anyone? Sometimes, you just have to grin and bear it. Order again, wait, and within an hour of opening your new MacBook Pro, you'll realize the wait was definitely worth it.

Cost higher

I agree the cost of Windows then eventually probably going to Linux then probably eventually trying Mac again is higher. Try and get the system through another authorized Mac seller. I believe that the shipping dates will start to be bumped to earlier dates as Intel starts rolling out more chips to Apple. This happens a lot. Of course it was unfair that some others had an earlier date. I hope you stressed that fact to them and said that you knew of others that got it before you. If that manager wouldn't listen then another probably would have. You got one of those no matter what you say types. Some actually stay there listening and feel for you. I just would've kept trying. The Mac experience is great. I am a Tech Consultant for both Mac and Windows, so I know them both inside out. I end up fixing so many Win issues that hardly ever happen on the Mac side...I think everyone has pretty much stated what they are here. Try giving it another shot. As you can see the MBP is very powerful and many are testing it and reporting on how great it is on this forum.
