Anyone else experiencing this annoying scrolling issue with 12.1? Didn't have it in the prior iOS. It's on my iPhone 8.

1) When I look up all the photos within a text message (iMessage app, then tap the contact @top of screen, then i-info, then start scrolling down), I can't get very far without it automatically popping me back up to the very top of all the images.

2) When I open a sub-menu in Safari, such as clicking the flag in the upper right corner of Macrumors' mobile site, it quickly does not "take" and instantly closes the drop-down menu that briefly appeared.

In both cases, it's as if an invisible finger is touching the top of the screen area to scroll the iMessage images to the top, or close the Macrumors drop-down menu.

Anyone else have similar issues in the same or different instances? Just started with 12.1.

Another new issue with 12.1 is taking forever to open a link in Safari, may be related to 12.1 or not, but never happened before 12.1. I just get the spinning, then "not available" screen, but when re-trying, it's clearly available. On wifi as well as cellular.

THX.

I'm not experiencing either of these issues. I set up my iPhone as "new" when upgrading from iOS 11 to iOS 12 this year.

You can probably spend a lot of time doing a lot of troubleshooting, and you might resolve the issue.

Unless it's hardware related, restoring you phone as "new" will correct the problem. Just make sure to turn everything on in iCloud sync.

If the problems persist after restoring the phone as "new" without restoring a backup, you should start looking at hardware.

Thanks. This didn't occur for me before 12.1. I'll consider a restore as new. Then restore an iCloud backup, right, because that's much cleaner than restoring to a cloned image, right?

I would test it out without restoring you backup for a day or so, just to make sure it's fixed.

Once you know it's working, you can restore your backup. If the problems comes back, you might have something corrupted in a preference. In that case, you'd want to restore as new again and not use a backup.

If you have everything in iCloud sync turned on, you shouldn't really lose much when starting as new. The biggest nuisance for me is setting up email accounts, but your keychain should remember the password for major services like Google. Other than that, you'll need to download any third party apps you have.

The OP mentioned they have an iPhone 8, so this wouldn't affect them, but you might want to read this if you have an iPhone X:
Apple Launches iPhone X Display Module Replacement Program to Address Touch Issues

Thanks for that. I do have an X, but I don't think that's my issue. I just have the specific issue listed by the OP in #1. It seems to a picture loading problem, in that you start scrolling through the images in a messages thread and as it loads more in dumps you back up to the top. I would think if it was the display module I'd have other symptoms as well.

It's not your display module, that issue has been seen occasionally on most devices from time to time. Just one of those persistent bugs that hang on for several iOSes. Restoring as new might be reasonable for a major issue that you see every time but the trauma of downloading all your apps, if you even remember all the ones you have, and then re-organizing your screens is not worth going through with something minor that’s not always evident. I have a keyboard click sound bug on my new iPad Pro that first occurred on an iPad Air in iOS 8, was fixed in one version of iOS 10, then came back in 12 on all the iPads. I posted about it a year ago but had to give explicit instructions as to how to duplicate it because most wouldn’t notice it. So now I just ignore it. I even had Apple Support reach out to me once to ask if it had been fixed but it hasn’t. If you’re part of any beta you can use their feedback mechanism to report it.

That's an hilarious statement!!

I think if an issue is important enough to post about on a public forum because it bothers a user, downloading a few apps after setting up the phone as new (which will resolve the issue) is not going to be any sort of "trauma."

If someone doesn't remember the app, do they really need it? As far as organizing the screens, it's not a homework assignment. People are free to change their minds and set it up however they feel.

Everyone has their own priorities, but I think blindly running though countless troubleshooting steps that probably won't address the issue would be more annoying than downloading a few apps.

Well every post here and on every forum is because it bothers a user. I’d love to see what would happen with Apple servers if all of us went through that process. Oh the humanity!

I've had issue #1 for some time now, and it's not a 12.1 thing. I'm on 12.0.1 and I had the same issue on iOS 11. It's very frustrating.

Issue number one is happening on my iPad air 2, also, so it’s definitely not just a device thing.

YES, I've confirmed this issue as well, it started on 12.1! The issue with scrolling in the text thread after hitting"info" and trying to scroll through the images of a LONG thread.

When the other member mentioned this always happened, this isn't true. This is a NEW ISSUE. In the past, on older IOS's since ios 11 at least, sometimes the pics wouldn't load right away and you'd have to scroll up or down to make them load. The new issue is, as soon as you scroll down a little, it shoots you straight to the bottom instantly! It's horrible.

I came from an Iphone 6s on ios 11, and there issue wasn't there. Now in a XS with 12.1 and the issue is there and shoots you to the bottom. I've tried an iphone 6 on 12.1, same thing. Restoring is NOT going to fix. ANd I think a cloned image may be better than an icloud backup. Personally I've restored from backup every since I had an iphone 3gs! That means everytime I get a new phone, I'm restoring from backup on my computer for the past 7 years and my phones always work good.

NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS. the beta firmware, that any of you can sign up for, HAS THIS SCROLLING ISSUE FIXED!! You can download it now and have this problem fixed, and it also fixes the delayed loading of pics all the way back since ios 11!!! You're welcome.
