Scuff on back of brand new iMac

So today, I buy a brand new top-of-the-range iMac setting me back a hell of a lot of money.

I get it home, set it up, everything is going fine.

Then I notice on the back there is a scuff about 2cm across, you can see it clearly when it's against the light.

I've taken a picture and it's clearly visible



Do you think I should take it back? and would Apple replace it?

I've not even had it 24 hours. to say I'm a bit gutted is an understatement.

Should you take it back? That's for you to decide. I think it would be a good idea to call the retailer immediately to get the definitive answer to your question. If it bothers you or doesn't sit right with you for any reason, why hesitate? If the retailer cares about customer service and satisfaction at all, they will make this right for you.

how can you prove its not your fault? just sayin

same happened with my new bed frame, a big gauge i didnt notice till like late. i didnt do it but i cant prove that they did either

Within 14 days you can return it for any reason.

So I'm pretty sure they'd do it - its not like they'd inspect it that closely, being within the 14 days.

Just go in. Posting here won't magically make it disappear.
 
theyll replace it.. when i bought my macbook it had 1 dead pixel right in the middle of the screen.. they replaced it no questions asked.
 
looks like it's back to the Apple Store tomorrow then.

All I did was take it out of the box. It's something that could easily be missed if you weren't looking properly but I'll be damned if I pay £1800 for a computer I expect it to look brand new.

yea but they'll charge you a 10% restocking fee.
 
While it likely won't do anything and you will likely have no issues since it is a simple cosmetic issue on a side you don't look at, it might become an issue if it isn't documented now -- since they may claim is it user damage later instead of the factory cosmetic defect it is.

Yeah I don't blame you. I've never had a bad egg like that *touch wood* in the 8 years of owning a Mac

That's only if you don't want it. Replacing it they should do without a fee. Best thing to do is be calm, don't start ranting and raving, cause it doesn't help. Apple store employees are really friendly folk, I get on with them so easily.
 
you should look for any flaws on the screen.. if you have a perfect Screen meaning no dead pixels or clouds on your monitor.. i would think twice before replacing it.. you'll never see the back of your imac but if you get a bad monitor it will stick to you for the next few years.. and if they don't want to they don't have to replace it for a dead pixel...

I'd rather have a scuff on the back than a not perfect monitor

I hear what you're saying but the way it's positioned the back of the iMac is visible to anyone sitting opposite me, so it is an issue.

I'm transferring my data off of it now, and taking it back to the store later.

Wish me luck.
 
Just got back from the apple store. They changed it no fussing, this one is scuff free. I am now a happy bunny and can start transferring my files from my external hdd :)

Thanks! I believe I did. I've been using my new iMac today, what a joy. Easy to use, no software crashes and superior screen resolution. No more PC's for me! I'm now a Mac user and very happy :D

Replace it. When you pay for that price it needs to be perfect. Ecspecially from apple.

Happy to hear you got your replacement :eek:

I must admit that in the last few weeks I've unpacked at least 50 iMac's and have never seen any scuff marks on any of them. The one you got must have been a late 'friday' or early 'monday' iMac ;)

Done that now!

I went for the top-end one, because the 1TB drive is better for my data storage needs, also I'm a musician and use Pro Tools.

I switched to Mac because the power unit in my PC blew up, taking all the chips with it. Luckily the hard drive was salvageable. So far iMac has exceeded my expectations on all counts :)
