So what type of SD cards would be best for extra storage on the Macbook Airs?
I know they come in 32gigs now.

...and it's not using one of your 2 USB ports.

SD cards won't stick out off the side of your laptop if you're mobile.
Pretty nice, although it seems they only go up to 16GB, and for the same price you can get a 32GB SD card.Acyually, they will, and more so than small USB memory sticks. Maybe you haven't seen the tiny ones that are quite popular now, but I'd say these are more handy than an SD card:

So it looks like a SDHC 32gig would work. Is that the fastest SD you can get?
Toshiba claims read/write speeds of 95Mbps and 80Mbps respectively:

Do what I did an take a little sandpaper to the end of the SD card. Is flush now. I set up a backup every hour of my main working directory in case I lose the main disk.SD cards don't fit flush into the slot? I might have been wrong then...
That's a USB card, only 8GB (or a little more), sticks out even more, and is flat so it only has support from one side of the USB slot. Not really useful to use as a storage device. The real question is can you erase the Snow Leopard SD Card that comes with it? I'm sure you can't but that would make it a lot more useful.
