I've mentioned several times before that I went from an SE -> XR. While it was nice to have the additional real estate and battery life especially since I travel, the weight was a bit annoying

With rumors of an 8-like SE2 and a smaller 5.4 inch 12 coming out, I. may hold out another year.

I'm traveling by train and plane weekly so a 5 SE +Mini fits the bill. But, the features and batt life of the 11 Pro is intriguing.

Looks like 3-4 hours Screentime on an SE is manageable with a Mini in my shoulder bag. I rarely take pictures so thats not a factor.

For you travelers, should I just bite on the 11 pro and downgrade next year or do the combo?

Mini 5 is perfect for travelling

11 Pro is insane if you don't care for photos

Don’t understand really the screen real estate comment on the XR? Is it just the size you are enjoying?I say that because this has been the biggest disappointment in going from the SE to the 11 for me. The negative in the increase in size of the device, (which is borderline un-pocketable, and not comfortable when you do) but you don’t get the positive of getting the Max models’ expanded app views in landscape mode. It literally is just a blown up view with no more real estate. The only place you can actually really get more real estate is surfing the web on Safari - but I do that almost exclusively on the iPad mini just like you.

Now I am on an iPhone 11, an iPad mini 4 private (my favorite Apple device of all time), and an old 12.9“ iPad Pro 1st Gen as a Proof of Concept for work. Am contemplating whether I actually need the 12.9” for work, or can go with the 11” Pro when I go for a new work device at the turn of the year.

With iPadOS allowing us to control the desktop versions and zoom levels on individual web sites (and actually being able to successfully request desktop versions of all the sites), as well as the more friendly aspect ratio for external monitors on the 11”, a 12.9” may not be necessary. We’ll see.

I love the iPad mini form factor, and am in the “really wish there was a flagship sub 5” iPhone“ camp so feel your dilemma. Would have been super awesome to get a FaceID and Smart connector 9” mini Pro with the 11” form factor and identical aspect ratio and resolution, would be killer.
