The funny thing is my answer would have been completely different six months ago, that is when my wife's dumb phone died and we replaced it with an iPhone 8 (since it is her first smart phone she didn't need the latest and greatest). I love the size of my original SE, but found I didn't mind the size of the iPhone 8. Plus, her phone's battery lasts much longer than my SE's does. Granted, her usage/running apps is no where near as high as mine, but I found myself getting jealous on how well her battery performed. Once I heard about the new SE I was sold on getting it once it was released. So... love it, getting it! Six months ago... really don't like, absolutely not.

I answered for my mom. She'd prefer smaller still but at this point, she recognizes the need for a new phone with more modern tech. :p

Her Apple Watch frequently disconnects from her SE and she's been to places where she didn't have internet because her SE is missing requisite LTE bands. Plus, her battery's bad at this point (overnight standby drain: 80%, turns off during calls, etc).

I have the iPhone X and I keep up with trends and follow all the new stuff that’s coming out, watch YouTube vids about all of it. A year ago I would’ve told you that I would not use anything other than the latest phone and the pro model. But after evaluating a lot of things in my life I have realized that spending $1000 plus for a phone is just not something I can continue to do. Now with a phone that has all of the internals of the newest iPhone out at a price that is almost a third of what the other phones are... I can tell you with almost absolute certainty that I will be buying an iPhone SE in the future.

I went from an iPhone 4s to an iPhone 6, and loved everything about the change. The iPhone 5 body didn't appeal to me at all and felt too tall in the boxy form factor (at the time, everything is relative, right?!).

I kept the 6 up until November last year with iOS 13 making it obsolete, and picked up a used iPhone SE and stuck a new battery in it. I am waiting for the later refresh this year to see what the 12 brings, with rumored smaller sizes. For me, the biggest issues are not bezels or Face ID vs Touch ID or a headphone jack -- it's weight and form factor.

If the rumored small iPhone 12 is a compelling package of latest tech / small form factor / reduced weight from the existing X/XR/XS/11 models, then it will be a day 1 buy: otherwise, I'll happily pick up an SE2 right then.

I was fully expecting it to feature the iPhone 11’s main camera with Night mode just like the og SE had the current flagship camera or Google does with its budget A-series. But it turned out to not be the case.

Another letdown is the apparently not improved battery life compared to iPhone 8.

However the size/design/price is just too right for me, compared to every other phone currently on the market. So I’ll wait for the actual reviews of the camera and battery life to make the final decision, maybe they’ll sway me.

Nope. But I'm in the smaller subset of SE users who just want a smaller phone and would be happy to pay a huge premium for one. Looking forward to seeing if the 5.4" is bigger, smaller, or the same size as the 6/7/8/SE. If it's smaller and has squared-off edges, I'm in!

I can imagine that people who bought the SE for price would jump at the new SE, though.

That’s what I’m hoping for. The only reason why I’d switch from my 11 pro. I want the squared edges so badly and smaller form factor.

iPhone SE 2 is near to the size of iPhone X. Just a bit smaller, thinner and lighter. The original iPhone SE is always the lightest which is close to the weight of a feature phone.

Had my 32GB 1st gen SE for about 18 months now and it's been a reliable workhorse, never slowed down with any updates, battery health still showing 98%. The thing I love about the original is the size - I hate large/bulky phones in my pocket and have small hands.

Was hoping the 2nd gen was going to be a similar size, but the with 'X' form factor and no home button so a little disappointed when I saw what we were getting.

The fact it's a bigger phone and the design of the '8' (which I like less than the 1st gen SE squarer design) is off putting, but the internal specs are very appealing.

I can get an X/XS for similar price, and as it's only slightly bigger than then new SE, I think I'm swinging towards an X/XS.

I use the SE-1 every day. It's my favourite iPhone I've ever owned.
Great size, great form factor, does the basics very well. Fits into a pocket. It's the best compromise of features andsize on the market. Sure it's not Touch ID v2 but v1 still works pretty well.

For me what the SE-2 is going to take a while to accept.
The SE-2 is not a small form factor phone. Sure it is but that's not it's design philosophy. The SE as a thing is the same form factor of the current iPhones with mostly new or slightly older internals. Basically a way for Apple to clear their inventory channels of old parts and cater to the lower end audience.
I say lower end and not low end as Apple do not sell low end smart phones. They never have.

If the trends keep happening the SE will be on a 4 year cycle. 2016, 2020, 2024 etc etc.
The SE-3 will look like what ever 2024 iPhones look like.

Honestly I feel a number of people who can't afford or don't liek the 1-2 year cycle will warm to the 4 year ctcle of the SE.

Also we need to realise Apple no longer sell phone sized phones and probably never will. It's now just large phones or even larger phones.

The SE is not targeted at people who want phone sized phones. It is targeted at people just need a new phone because their old one is long in the tooth and don't care about it's size, as long as it works and has iOS on it.

Finally the form factor though it matters, it matters not that much. What matters more is which case you get for it. No one uses their phone naked anymore.

As much as I wanted an SE-1.5 I feel the SE-2 is the better way to go. I think I'll eventually replace my SE-1 with an SE-2 but only after I go hands on at the local (1 hour away) Apple Store once the curfew is over.

The 5.4" iPhone due later this year is literally a touch bigger than the original SE. If people want small, that will be the option for them. Apple are trying to cater for everyone, thats more than anyone else is doing.
By the end of the year they'll have a quality budget device, a quality mid-range, and an awesome top spec device. And unlike the others, you can also find good deals on refurbished devices from Apple that are as good as brand new.

I think too many (not yourself) aren't giving Apple enough credit here. They are opening up their ecosystem (great business sense) and also this is going to push the competition massively to step up their game, which in turn will force Apple to keep improving, it's a win-win situation.

Same here. In fact, I just started this thread for anyone who is in the same camp as you and me:
Though I personally don't care for the squared-of edges of the old SE.

I was actually going to pull the trigger today on the new SE, largely because of the camera. I bought an XS when it came out, but later stuck it in my drawer and bought an SE because of the size/weight. But I still miss the XS cameras.

While I'm now in no rush to buy the new SE today, I have a feeling that I'm still going to buy it and "settle" with it until that rumored 5.4" model comes out. My daughter still has my hand-me-down iPhone 6s, so she's overdue for an upgrade. She probably won't want my small older SE, but will probably be content with the newer SE that I could give to her when that 5.4" model comes out. My wife, meanwhile, has been suffering with an iPhone 6+, and I think I'll finally give her that XS of mine that has just been collecting dust.

Here's hoping that some of those rumors are true and the 5.4" model is much closer to the old SE's size.

Well, given the dimensions of a 5.4" screen, it likely to be much closer to the size of the 7/8/SE (2020) than the old SE...it might even the same size or slightly larger, which would absolutely suck for someone like me. But I am still hopeful it will be smaller.

I wonder what this 5.4" x-form factor '12' will be priced at?

anyone dip their feet in the preorder pool today?

My son has had an SE for the last two plus years and I've always liked the flat sides. The iPhone 5 is my favorite iPhone so the SE worked for me. I had hoped that the new SE would continue with that, but no. It looks like an iPhone 7 or 8.

As the owner of an iPhone 6s+ who avoided the 7 and 8 then, this isn't really an upgrade for me. The SE got bigger, which would have been fine but with curved sides I honestly don't see a point in switching from a 6s+ to an SE. I know internals are different, but any old phone will do what I need it for.

Kind of disappointed. I was hoping to come back from Android (my primary phone) but not going to happen now.

Unlike the 11 series you’re going to pay additionally for the 5G and for the redesigned chassis.

I’d say at least $799-899 for the base two-camera 5.4’ model.

Part of the reason why they have released a $399 phone now.

yeah, still. I think $799 loaded 5.4" X variant is a 'good' price (in apple world) for something people are jonesing for.

its getting so confusing choosing for average Joe.

SE, XR, 11, 11 Pro's. They all increment a couple hundred for feature trade off / specs.

I predict 11 will replace XR and will be SE, 11, 12/12 Pros.

Sure, $799 for 5.4” iPhone 12 would be more than acceptable provided it’s oled equivalent of the 11 and will feature latest cameras (just 2 vs 3+Lidar on the pro).

That was my lowest estimate though. At least $100 increase (but likely more) from 11. Which, if lowered to $600, would be an amazing deal. Better than new SE I’d argue.

I'm intrigued by it, and I love the price. I'll be looking to switch back to Verizon, and I may get the SE, simply because I'll be saving $$

If the rumored 5.4” came to fruition and was $600, I would be ordering day one. I don’t see that happening because it would, more than likely mess up Apple’s profit margin.

Great price and a lot of tech bang for the buck. I am eager to receive my order.

Coming from a SE, I don’t really care for the larger size. However, for the value, I will give it the honest 14 trial. Hopefully, I will like it.

Im in too!

$200 off If you do the payment installments with ATT/Verizon/ I think Sprint on Walmart.com right now

getting a 128gb white for $250 effectively... cannot beat it/ nothing to debate haha

even if I go so horribly wrong with this phone, such a low cost entry point I will do fine no matter what move I make

--

whatever you guys do, don't trade in your SE1 to Apple for a measly $30, its criminal.

I plan on selling my SE1 and both my parents SE1 on here. All 128GB, like new with AppleCare+. That should get me more than $30. Apple’s price is terribly low. To be fair, the SE1 trade-in price with most outlets is very low.
