That one ad? How does the iPhone know what is nearest to you? I don't get it.

Also likely that Cingular could at least be able to report back the iPhone's current base station lat & long for use by google maps.

Im guessing it goes with the area code that your phone is subscribed to. so if you are 714, it will search seafood areas with the area codes that start with 714? Actually Im probably wrong now that I think about it, there would be a lot of results if that were the case.

EVERY newer cell phone has a "limited gps". It finds your position by which towers you are using.

this seems to be the same as the old video apple has under break through devices for maps. has a pre-loaded city (likely since ap loads so fast?) so San Fran is loaded and than "seafood" is searched. gps is not needed - just need to know where you are in city to know what is the nearest
