Hello, just a quick check with everyone here, I happen to find this model drive which has a 16mb buffer and not the 8mb that some have said tends to fail. Here is the link...http://www.buy.com/prod//q/loc/223/202009423.html The reason I'm posting this is even though one could just buy everything seperate and make one FW HDD, does this seem like a very good deal that I should jump on? I know some have favorites but for 300GB and no mail-in rebates does anyone have this type of Seagate drive and how do you like it as far as noise, heat and performance goes? Has anybody heard of a high fail rate from the 300+ drives? Thanks for any and all input before I make my way into the world of a backup HDD :D

I bought that drive for my parents as a gift, and it has worked out quite well for them. It is fast, cool, and quiet. In my opinion, you cannot go wrong with Seagate drives.

I followed the link, and it looks the drive is out of stock. You may want to try outpost.com. (That is where I purchased the drive).

If you want to save some money, go ahead and buy a Seagate hdd and a firewire enclosure. It's a piece of cake to do, and it gives you the option to upgrade your drive in the future.

Thanks I just went to buy it as it was $169 lastnight and now it's out of stock :( Yeah I really want the one with the 16mb buffer because the 8mb ones seem to fail a lot on all the reviews. Thanks again for the update as I really should backup to more than dvds ;)
