I guess that's the best replacement harddrive for my new macbook.

performance is close to the 7200rpm top model, with almost twice the capacity.

the problem is... eBay and google only gives me IDE versions, and MacBook uses SATA...

any ideas where i can get one in UK?

cheers

At the same store that sells trips to Mars and Windows Vista. That is to say, things that do not yet exist.

Seagate currently doesn't MAKE a SATA version of the 5400.3, which is why you can't find one. I'm sure it'll only be a matter of time until they do, but for the time being you're just going to have to wait like everybody else. There's a reason you can't CTO a 160GB drive on any MacBook currently.

I don't think the 160GB will be as fast as you think. Reason is it uses a new technology called perpendicular recording, which at least in the PATA version from the review I read runs slower than the non-perpendicular 120GB version. If I were you I'd get the 120GB SATA 5400rpm right now, and that is very close to the speed of a 7200.
