hi, found a sealed 16' M1 in a local ad - about 500$ cheaper than Apple's

I can meet the guy in person -- what should I check after opening?

serial nr on https://checkcoverage.apple.com/
DEP MDM profile in system prefs -> profiles
is there anything else?

many thanks,
M

Check to see if it's inside ha. A lot of folks can just wrap stuff up these days and the price is definitely suspicious. If it's too good to be true then I usually pass.
true, but I'll be able to open it before I pay, was just curious if there's anything else to check - eg found out about MDM earlier today lol

Approach with caution. Someone purchased a brand new 16" M1 Max MBP a few weeks ago on Reddit. Everything booted up fine except it installed some profile on it's own locking the device to some institution. Turns out, the laptop was stolen.

The machines get locked as soon as you connect to the internet and only the organization that the macbook was originally for can only request to have the lock removed.

I'm not saying that will be the case with you but it is something to be weary about -- especially since it can happen to new, sealed devices.

Proceed with caution.

I never buy high-end electronic stuff from individuals. It's better to buy "direct" from a reputable
source.
