Have you noticed how when you go to settings, the search box is always present at the bottom? Why? Like for real, why? What use does this have? It takes screen space out from you. Why would you do this when you had a perfectly good solution by scrolling up until the rubber band effect kicked in?

This Liquid Glass design seems like an after thought, it doesn’t give any new functionality, it’s just a skin, and a really bad one.

They had to had something in the bottom so your content would appear behind the glass thing and then you would feel amazed.

Actually y'know what, I can believe this. No reason the search box couldn't have been a smaller button - except that then the LG effect wouldn't be as pronounced. Design for design's sake.

It bothers me too. It’s also in messages, contacts, notes, not sure where else I’ll find it!
Maps, Mail have search bars at the bottom. Photos and Health only get large isolated search buttons in the bottom-right corner. Reminders, Calendar and Wallet get search buttons integrated into a UI element with other buttons in the upper-right corner. They probably have data to back these decisions up. But I think in most cases I'd prefer with a button in a consistent location to call up a search bar if needed.

On the contrary, that speaks volumes. They don’t have the language and are just changing things as they see. If they had a language design then everything would be consistent. This just screams like they don’t know what they are doing. What’s up with that ugly check mark everywhere?

In Mail the search bar could easily go up top since there's a ton of empty space ... but noooo, gotta keep the design consistent (except where it's not) right?

I just like a pull down search menu, so it’s invisible unless you need it, then you pull down on the screen and there it is.

Makes perfect sense, search is probably the most used feature in most apps. The older hidden pull down search was OK, unless you weren't at the top of the list, then you had to scroll all the way back to the top of the list, and then you had to reach to tap at the top of the screen to actually activate the search box.

Having it omnipresent and at the bottom is a lot more convenient.
