Search how te see if searching

When searching on the mac for files in finder one cannot see that he is searching. In the old OSX you could see a sign that was turning so he was searching. Now when searching in finder in El Capitan nothing is happening, at the end the reults show but it takes some time before the results appear. How can you see if he is still searching?

The results should come up almost instantly. It is only searching the Spotlight database, not the drive.

I am afraid that is not the case on my IMac and this is new IMac....

Try rebuilding your spotlight index as follows:

1. Choose Apple  menu > System Preferences, then click Spotlight.
2. Click the Privacy tab.
3. Drag the folder or disk that you want to index again to the list of locations that Spotlight is prevented from searching. Click OK to confirm.
   
4. Select the folder or disk you just added, then click the Remove (–) button to remove it from the list.
5. Quit System Preferences. Spotlight will reindex the contents of the folder or disk.

It may take an hour or so to rebuild the spotlight index depending on the speed of your computer and the speed and size of your drive. While the rebuilding is taking place, I believe you will see a dot in the middle of the spotlight magnifying glass icon.
