Search Mail problem with Intel Mac Mini ...

Hi there.

I had to re-install the system software in my new
Intel Mac Mini about three weeks ago. Up until then,
the search facility was working fine in my Mail program.
However, when I now look for anything, I get zilch,
there's absolutely nothing coming up at all. I've tried
synching mail accounts and anything else I can think
of, but to no avail - I get no results or matches at all.

Has anyone got any bright ideas as it's a real pain having
to trawl through my e-mails if I want to find anything.

And you just reinstalled the system? Thats messed up. Sounds like mail isn't indexing the mail or something.

Have you installed any addons or changed any major preferenced? How did you import your mail?

Nope, haven't installed anything new recently or
changed any major preferences. Didn't need to
import any mail either as everything was just the
same except for the search facility. Spooky, eh?

By just the same, do you meaen you setup your mail account and it downloaded said mails from a pop3/.mac mail server? Thats normal.

Hi again.

No, what I meant was that all the e-mails I had sent and
received were still there whenever I opened the mail program;
the only change was that the search facility wouldn't turn up
any results - and still won't! It's a real pain in the butt!

Any bright ideas?

Just to clarify a few things so I and other users can help you in a more effective way.

1. The search function in mail worked fine before the system reinstall?
2. What kind of system reinstall did you do? Archive and Reinstall, or a complete reformat?
3. Did you backup and re-import mails from before the system reinstall?
A. If so, how did import the mails. (might effect indexing)
4. Can splotlight see your emails? (accessable via the white/blue magnifying glass on top right corner of the screen)
5. About how many emails do you have in Mail?
