I am in the market for a new monitor mainly because I want the higher screen res from my MBP, my current dell montior is a 20'' wide I think, and has not let me down ever, however the ACD's are very sharp looking yet I cant get those nearly as cheap as I can get a Dell from a dealer on Ebay, (that is where I got this one for $350 and gave him a Xeon, I mean what do you all think is the ACD the way to go or is the Dell Equally as good, Idk seeing how I have never owned an ACD so any input is good input.

ACDs are quite expensive.. we use the dells at work (typically the 24inchers) and they're sharp, nice, and reliable (as you already know from your experience).. i know a lot of people around these forums seem to use dells as well, without complaint. my advice? stick with dell unless you have really good reason not to.

my dell 2407 just arrived today. amazing, really amazing. the screen is so beautiful i dont even notice the four offending letters on the bottom.

get teh 2407 over the 2405 if you want to do any hdtv watching on it. if not, try to find a good deal on the 2405.

I've got the Dell 2405 and it's fantastic. So bright and crisp (although it does require a fair amount of messing with the settings when it first arrives). The ACD is undoubtedly prettier, and will probably fit in with any Mac set up better (aesthetically speaking), but its hard to justify the extra money.

Apparantly Dell have notiriously poor quality control on what monitors leave the manufacturers, but all I know is that I got mine and its great (some buff might be able to point out flaws, but for me it looks great).

Didnt you say however you could get both at about the same cost in your original thread. I would go ACD, personally, if the cost is roughly similar (which it generally is not)

Care to PM me the guy you dealt with on ebay? I may be in the market for a new screen, and would like to deal with someone who I know is trustworthy.

ive got both the 23" ACD and the 2405Fpw from dell.

they are both superb monitors, and i use them professionally for my photo editing. The apple i think has a better color reproduction ( as far as accuracy )
but the dell has more vivid colors and a much higher contrast ratio. The dell is brutally ( and i mean bleeding eyes here) bright right out of the box, but once i used my monaco optix xr calibrator it was just great.

the apple cost me $1099 with a student discount, and the Dell was $679 refurbished from dell ( someone returned it to wait for the 2407 ) if you are interested in saving a bundle of money get the dell, youll get most if not all of the performance of the apple and a card reader ( if that matters to you ) it just wont look as pretty :)

i would recommend either. they are both fantastic monitors.
