Hi all,

Currently battling with searching in the system default 'open document' window that pops up in applications when you click file>open.

Once in that window, the default searching behaviour is to search entire mac, not the current folder.

In finder settings I have told Spotlight to search current folder only, which works as expected in a finder window, but this setting does not seem to flow down to other applications.

My questions are: Is this something that can be set at the macOS level, or is this specific to each applications implementation of the open document window? and Is there a potential workaround?

Currently using Adobe illustrator, but this behaviour seems systemwide regardless of app used. Running MacOS Sanoma 14.0

Thanks and I hope i've explained it clearly.

I think the default is "This Mac" but you can always change it manually to the folder that's presently open. I don't think you can make that choice default.

There's no way to change it in the Open/Save dialog, as far as I know.
