Searching My Movies

I am considering ripping my ~500 DVD collection (currently in 2 400 disc Sony changers with a Dvd Lobby HTPC front-end) over the h.264 for AppleTV and ipod Touch use. I will store them on a NAS. Before i buy the AppleTV, i'm curious how My Movies can be searched. From what i can tell, the search /genre features are for the iTunes store only, and the search and organization features are not applied to My Movies, which is where my dvds would be. Is this correct? if i am wrong, please advise.

Thats a lot of movies to rip...
Yes as far as i know the only way to search with categories is thru the apple store.
I have like 25 movies stored on my nas and they are listed alphabetically. In the Shared Movies tab of TV.
