I’m thinking of buying second hand MacBook Air M1.
What do you think about the battery?

Condition says normal so yeah... and of course it's used so you would expect some wear. I'm no expert on second hand macs but I'd say you'd be hard pressed to find an M1 with lower cycle/higher health %. That seems quite reasonable, I think.

Assuming the owner bought this 3-4 years ago and it has only gone down 8% then it'll last you just as long before it even gets to 80% which is where Apple would probably replace it (if you pay).

That's pretty good for an M1 Air. I wouldn't worry to much about that. What kind of price are you getting it for though. Do be advised that a brand new M3 13" MBA can be had at Best Buy right now for $849

there
that should be good,
my macbook pro 2012 has this information:
(seems to me they added more helpful info back in 2012)
Charge Information:
Charge Remaining (mAh): 5204
Fully Charged: Yes
Charging: No
Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 5254
Health Information:
Cycle Count: 534
Condition: Normal
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): 0
Voltage (mV): 12422

which is still excellent for the model, a 2012 which last over 5 hours still

i can copy my macbook M1 2020 battery info whihc is great still if you want.

Batteries age even with 0 cycles, especially if they are kept charged to 100%.

That may be true with recent Apple OEM batteries today but I have a feeling that older OEM batterries were superior. Why?
I have a 2012 15" MacBookPro9,1 Core i7 which is generally always connected via the charger and in use daily. Several times a month I disconnect from the charger and in use allow the charge to fall below 60% and occasionally to 0%.
I've just checked and today the battery status indicates 97%, with cycle count of 903 also with condition status 'Service Battery' (which of course I won't until it no longer holds a reasonable charge). So to date that's 12 (TWELVE) years with the original battery which still appears reasonably healthy.
I can't help wondering how many Apple Mx laptops will still be chugging along with their original battery in 2031 and beyond!

M1 Air was sold for many years. You may want to run the serial number to see when it was made or purchased. Could be anywhere from 2020 to 2024. Mine was originally purchased 11/22. Search Apple Check Coverage.
