I have a Gen 1 MacPro with 6 Gb Ram, ATI HD 3870 and second life randomly freezes my MacPro (requires hard restart) almost every 30 minutes (sometimes far less, sometimes more).

Does anyone know of any magic combination of settings that will cure this, and what is the issue? Everything else runs fine.

Thanks

Second Life Freezes Mac Pro

this seems to be a common Mac problem with SEcond Life. It is primarily a poor implementation of the SL code for Macs but there are a few things that help some.
First, Don't leave Safari open at the same time.
Second. Go to Preferences, Graphics Tab, Custom< Hardware Objects and then deselect Anistropic filtering, and be sure VBO is disabled. Set texture memory no higher than 50.
I assume you frequently clean the inventory cache and restart. Macs are finicky about this in SL.

I even tried to run SL in Windows through bootcamp on my iMac but if refuses to display avatars, rendering the program mostly useless.

Hope this helps
