I understand that it is possible to use a second monitor with an iMac.

But how can you use the second monitor? Can I play a game in full-screen mode on the iMac's screen and surf the internet on the external monitor at the same time? Or would the game utilize both screens?

With 2 moniters, you can play a game a surf the internet at the same time (I don't know why you would want to, but it is possible). But I do not understand 100% how this works, perhaps someone with more expertise can help you on this one.

When I play COD2 online, I sometime have to wait for one or two minutes until the next round gets started. It would be nice if I could use this time to check my emails or read news in the meantime, instead of having to watch other players shooting each other.

Most games I've tried make the second monitor turn black when they start, and grab the keyboard and mouse for themselves. It might be possible to trick them into releasing the screen, but I haven't tried that much.
