Ok everyone, I have my MBP on order and it is due to ship the end of March but Im starting to have some concerns. The only other mac I have personnally owend is my mac mini 1.42 ghz and 512 ram etc... but I have had nothing but troubles with it. It is slow and I mean unusable slow most of the time, locks up, will not but all the way most of the time and now I can not run any programs everytime I click on a program to start it puts a question mark over the icon. Ok I know the MBP is NOT a mini but like I said it is the only mac I have owned and although OSX is a ton better than 9 when I used it my concerns are still there. Also concerns with compatibility with the rest of the Windows :( driven buisness world. Now I do have PC's to suite my needs for buisness and office for OSX for my documents, which is what everyone at my school that I work with use that format. And my main purpose I want to use my MBP is for: pictures, video, webpages. I might have answered my own question but I would still like some feedback (reassurance :)) esspecialy from those who have recieved their MBP's and but them to the test.

Don't take your mac mini experience to be representative of mac's OS X in general. I can't say why you had those problems with it, but I'm sure your MBP will work fine. There has been one issue about it making some kind of buzzing noise periodically, but it hasn't effected everyone so I wouldn't worry.

I've personally heard it and the buzzing is quieter than the buzzing that a CRT TV makes when on so I wouldn't worry about it. I'm still going to order one. If you are really worried try one out in a store first. That should put your mind at ease.

Go to an Apple Store or CompUSA and play with either the new MacBook Pros or Intel iMacs. They are so much better then the iBook or Mini. They can play high def videos that the iBook or Mini will simply not play. Safari is much faster. iPhoto is much faster. Everything is just so much more enjoyable. After playing with the MacBook Pro for close for a hour at the Apple store last week, I knew I must eventually buy one because it is a lot better then my iBook. The Speed, screen, and the sexiness combo of it cannot be matched by anything else in the computer market.

I'm really surprised to hear of your troubles with the mini. Have you tried backing up your data and reformatting and reinstalling OS X? A Mac shouldn't be that crashy... ever.

seriously...insert your os x disk, click on it when it pops up in desktop, and do either a clean install or an archive and install...your in the ".1 minority" when you say os x is full of problems for you...if you don't have much on your mini just do a full clean install

That MB is gonna be HEAPS faster than ur mac mini.....especially if u are using it for music, photos and movies, where all that software is already universal software. Compatability is no probs either if u hav the office mac etc. I use my ibook at my school, and it works fine through the proxy...

Yes I have re-formated twice now, the first time programs wouldn't install then I did it again and everything seemed fine but it didn't take long for things to start going downhill again. Im hopeing I just got a lemon or something. Im going to try a fresh install once more before I give up. Maybe it doesn't like Tiger. It didn't come with Tiger installed because I bought it pre-Tiger then upgraded when it came out. Bad RAM maybe? I had it upgraded in the store to 512 when I purchased it maybe its a bad chip, I might try the original 256 chip if I can find it, even though i will not be happy with that amount of ram

If you have Applecare, take that sucker in. Seriously. That is completely unlike how Apple stuff normally operates. It sounds like your hard drive is completely ****ed.

Seriously. I'm running OS X on a seven-year-old box right now and I've never had problems like that. If that **** was commonplace, none of us would be Mac nuts :)

Take it to an Apple Store or contact Apple now.

(or send it to me)

You could always take it into the local Apple Store for a quick check up. I had problems with my Mini locking up after sleep mode which then turned into locking up when running nearly any app, but since I was still under warranty, they fixed it all up for free with a motherboard and harddrive. Now I'm running just like the day I bought it, all in 4 days. A diagnostic with a Genius could be in order...

I'm actually in the same boat as you, own a Mini that I've had a few issues with, waiting to put an order in for a MBP and having some second thoughts.

If it makes you feel any better, I'll be making an order in about a week or so, then it's just a matter of waiting an un-godly 4-6 weeks for it to get here. I'd stick with it.

Keep in mind, you largely only hear the bad on the forums here... nobody wants to take the time to post rave reviews that are only going to be seen as annoying by everyone else.

Hey! Hey! That **** is (c) 2006 Kalisphoenix Productions. You need written permission for derivative works

There's something obviously wrong with your Mac. That isn't the way a Mac should run. Just wait until you receive your new computer before you get worked up. You're just asking for bad things to happen by obsessing on them.

well the question mark thing with the programs in the dock is just that your shortcuts to the apps are wrong

make sure you drag the icon from the apps folder to the dock

somehow you messed up the shortcuts.......theyll work if you drag FROM apps folder to the dock
