Being a dedicated iPhone user I currently use iOS Photos as my main backup with extra storage purchased through iCloud to support my 20 gigs of pics.

I also backup my pics to an external storage drive.

As a percautionary secondary cloud backup, and not to get totally fenced in with the iOS environment I have also being using Microsoft OneDrive as an add'l backup. My issue with OneDrive: its a trainwreck from an app perspective & I am really getting tired of how even the basic of things, such as having an album sorted by date taken cannot even be done.

I was wanting opinions on Amazon Photos to replace my secondary backup & leave OneDrive. Is Amazon Photos safe? Do they mine stored pics?

Any other suggestions? (Please do not mention Google as I have made it a mission to avoid Google at all costs).

Amazon photos can definitely do the job if you’re avoiding Google. However it’s only unlimited for Prime members otherwise limited to 5GB.

Also videos are limited to 5GB of free storage for both Amazon prime and non prime members.

They offer 100gb for 24.99/yr for non Prime members.

I just want to ensure my pics are private & they don’t turn around to use my pics like Google claims they aren’t doing.

Amazon doesn’t really make money from user data like pictures and videos etc. So should be fine. At the end of the day you never know what these huge corporate companies really do behind the scene.

Every few months I copy my entire photo library from my Mac to an external drive. iCloud is my primary source and the external drive is my secondary. This only works if you have all your photos on a local drive and not storage optimized. I plan on moving to a cloud based secondary eventually but not a photo sharing service such as Amazon or Google. Just a "dumb" location to drop the library from time to time.

Google are no saints but supporting Bezos (Amazon) is more repugnant. Do some research.

I upload mine to Box. I can create folders of the 'event' and load to there. It can be done via share through iOS Photos or the Box app, or via my Mac.
If you want a DAM, this is not it, but it's a good secure third party service.
I was lucky enough to get a free 50GB account, I think it's all subscription plans now.
