Im about to take my iPhone6S+ for a battery replacement but i wish to secure my personal data because i dont know what might happen, once its opened. What would you do in my case?
Ive thought about making a backup in iTunes, delete everything on the iPhone and then restore it all back when the battery replacement is done... do you believe this is a good solution?

Yup. That’s what I would do. I wouldn’t even bother erasing everything. But you can do that as an extra precaution. Make sure you make a fresh back up though.

Is there any chance that when i will return from the battery replacement procedure and will try to restore the backup, i will be prevented because my iOS is very old (iOS 9). :(

I’m thinking it might have you upgrade to newer.

Either a backup on iTunes or the cloud if you use it for nightly backups.

I do both just to make sure.

I tried doing a backup on my MacBook Air the other day and couldn’t because I’m out of space haha. Need to upgrade that thing so bad.

Back up to iTunes and iCloud
Erase all content and settings VIA IPHONE - keeping iOS 9
Take in for battery replacement
Restore backup, remaining on iOS 9
???
Profit

A backup doesn’t restore the iOS version. It will put the backup on the latest iOS version that’s available for your device since iOS 9 is no longer available / signed

Just a sec to get this straight... let me describe the steps and let me know if it works that way.
- Phone is on iOS9
- Backup is made by iTunes
- Reset is done
- Battery is replaced
- Phone is Restored using the backup i recently did
- Phone is back to iOS9 where is was before the reset

If the reset is done via the phone you can keep iOS 9.

If it is done via iTunes you will go to ios 12.

However sometimes the store upgrading the battery also requires the OS to be updated.

I had no idea iTunes could make an iPhone reset. Given the fact of my situation, iPhone6S+, running iOS9 is there something i should be aware of while doing the steps i notified?

Because Apple doesn’t sign iOS 9 anymore.
what about what Mr_Brightside_@ said?
