Good day,

I have a 2010 Mac Pro that came with a flashed GTX 680 video card. When I first got the system I updated the latest video drivers to Nvidia Web Driver 346.03.15f02. Everything has been going great, no problems. Today that Apple security update 2016-001 came out, I installed and rebooted. Now whenever I log in the system pops up with Nvidia Driver Manager message that says the machine is now using OS X Default Graphics Driver because the Nvidia Web Driver, the same one I've been using for months, is not compatible with my current OS.

When it comes to gaming I'm not noticing any differences, so I'm not sure how much cause for alarm there is. Did this security update screw something up with the GPU drivers? What about this security update would suddenly make these drivers incompatible? Anyone else experience a similar issue with their Mac and Nvidia card today?

This is perfectly normal behavior whenever a system update changes the release number.
Nvidia will have a new driver out in a day or 2.
And yes, all of us who use Nvidia web drivers and applied the security update are having the same experience as you

As jbarley stated, normal behavior. Either have a recent backup to roll back or wait for the proper Nvidia update to come out in the next few days.

Came across this bit of info on changing the NVDAStartup kext file to the new OS version number. I have not tested it myself, but have seen other users on a Mac Pro FB group that have without problems. Not sure if it affects how the drivers interact with applications with the new changes apple applied with the security update, so there could be issues not seen immediately.

Here is the link and instructions.
