Seeking to purchase Mac Pro Towers - Suggestions?

Hello All -

I am currently building out a server farm of old Mac Pro servers. (The bigger silver ones, prior to the new black ones.)

I am interested in purchasing as little as 1 and as many as a few hundred.

I was wondering if anyone had advice on how/where I can solicit some companies that have a lot of Mac Pro's that might want to upgrade to the new ones IF they knew they had a buyer for all of the old ones?

That sounds like a lot of phone and leg work. You could put up a web-site and check the rules here and on other mac-centric forums to see if it's OK to post or add to your signature. Then every post becomes an advertisement as you go about normally participating in discussions. There's a few here doing that and MacRumors even hands out Vendor link-tags for positioning under your avatar and name. Again check to see what the requirements are for that and if other discussion forums have something similar.

Also if you're actually interested in purchasing "hundreds" it might be wise to create a publishable cheat-sheet with the price estimates for the various models, conditions, and configurations. I think it was barefeets who I recently discovered had such a sheet - but I don't know if they publish it. I asked them for a purchase estimate on my MP1,1 machine and they said they don't purchase upgraded systems but If I returned it to it's base stock configuration they'd give $350 (I think it was) for a condition "A" 1,1 system. And like that. They also sell used systems but of course there's their profit margin to consider and I dunno off hand how much that is - probably reasonable tho. <shrug>

I would get a hold of a reseller. They may have ways to acquire that kind of inventory. Also throw out emails to surround colleges. When they upgrade computer labs they sometimes have hundreds of Mac Pros they have to get rid of. Depending on the program, they may not be able to sell them though.
