Specifically i want to only see whats already on my apple TV. in the earlier software version i believe "source" was at the bottom of the main list. I could scroll down and either select local (whats uploaded to the apple tv) or select the computer to stream from.

I must be missing it, but i cant figure out how to select "local" in this new software.

I'm not sure to what you are referring.

in the previous software version i was able to select my source, either what was locally on the AppleTV or i could select my computer.

I specifically kept unwatched movies and shows locally on the appleTV as a way to sort them. So that if i wanted to watch a TV show or movie that i hadnt yet watched i would switch source to appleTV and i would have a small list of content that know i had yet to watch.

I must be missing something. When i pop opened My Movies its a list of everything that is on my computer. When i go to computers in the settings menu it says that if I choose to disconnect, all synced content will be taken off.

'My Movies' will display synced AND streamed content when your iTunes is open. To see ONLY what's synced, just quit iTunes on your Mac.

I totally agree. I did the same thing as blackbones, I'd have unwatched movies get synced while everything else stayed unsynced. When you have over a hundred movies it gets a little difficult to manage.

Maybe if they introduced a smart playlist of sorts with unwatched movies in it or something.

Oh well

I can't understand what the issue is. The syncing options haven't changed in iTunes. Now instead of deciding whether you want to see your streamed library or your synced content, you just decide whether to keep iTunes open or not. If iTunes is open, you see everything, and the synced stuff still plays from the :apple:tv's HDD. Either way the list is seamless.

I like this new way much better. Now I don't have to open iTunes AND select a source, I only have to open iTunes.

The computer that syncs to the appleTV is in another part of the house, the basement infact.

In the older software i could leave the computer and iTunes on for whatever length of time and not have to worry about what the status of itunes was. I was able to sit down at the TV and select my source. Now i dont have that luxury. I must either turn on the appleTV and see if iTunes is turned on or off (depending on what i want to watch) and then go down to the basement and make the necassary changes. OR before i even decide to sit down i have to go downstairs and either turn on or turn off itunes.

For a device that is supposed to offer the user convenience, this is very very inconvenient.

Not sure if this solves your problem or not, but in iTunes' :apple:tv Summary tab, you have the option to "Show only the synced items on my Apple TV." But it sounds as if you want to be able to see your full iTunes library every now and then. Bummer.

yea i saw that, but it didnt appear to do anything. I chose that option, synced and my full library still seemd to be appearing.

I know its not a major draw back, it was just something i got really used to, and since there arent any built in ways to sort the content it was the only way to isolate items that i knew i hand t watched with out scrolling through my entire library.

aTV summary tab on itunes

The apple TV device in itunes now only has the following tabs:

Summary
Photos

Missing are the Music and Video tabs so I'm not sure how to put specific movies or tv shows up there now.

anybody else see this?

Disconnect your itunes library in appletv, re-connect, enter the pin and you should have all the tabs.
