Selection invisible in dark mode

I just got a new iPad 11” 2024 with an Apple keyboard. Using dark mode, I was writing something in messages and noticed that selected text looked like other non-selected text — you can’t tell what is selected and what is not. (Actually the same thing is true is I type this message). There seems to be no way to change the selection color, so this is a problem — one just has to go back to light mode, where there is differentiation. Does anyone have any ideas about this? I like to use dark mode at night because it’s easier on the eyes.
