Selective application of dark appearance

I wonder if it is possible, in Monterey, to apply dak appearance selectively when running a particular program. Tinker Tool offers such a choice, but only for programs associated with the Tool.

(For those interested: I'm talking about LaTeX editors like TeXworks; when in dark mode, the coloring of the various commands in the editor is too dark for the characters to be visible and I prefer to run the pdfLaTeX compiler only.)
