I've been having problems with iCal and would like to reinstall it using Utilities Disc 1 with the Superdrive. However, there only appears to be an option to reinstall ALL the bundled software, at which point I've aborted the reinstallation process. Sledgehammer to crack a nut! It's only iCal I'm having trouble with (e.g searches not clearing down, "today" button greys out.) If it's not possible to reinstall just iCal from disc, does anyone know a way to "repair or mend" a malfunctioning iCal?

I had a problem with iCal a year and a half ago under 10.4.?. I took it into the Apple Store with your question and was told that it is not possible to just reinstall iCal as it is part of the OS.

The genius deleted the plist files for iCal and that solved the problem for a while. When it recurred, I goggled around until I found a seriously weird solution on some forum--the computer equivalent to a rain dance. The seriously weird solution held.

Use Pacifist to open up the individual packages on the Mac OS X install discs and to selectively reinstall applications. It's shareware but free to use (you just have a 15-second message on launch).
