I’m a heavy user of email and documents at both work and home and frequently find myself struggling to find urgent information I need across the sprawl of my email inbox and cloud storage. I find that Gmail or Drive search isn’t the best so finding a mail from even a month back is way more painful than it needs to be.

We’ve been spending some time on this and just released a free, universal search app for Gmail, Outlook, Slack, Drive and more. With the familiar Spotlight interface, your data is now just a keyboard shortcut away! On Apple Silicon, we also support AI summaries to make it even easier to get the information you need.

We built Selectric with privacy as a core value. All your data is indexed and stored on your local machine. Our AI models also run on your computer so no data ever leaves it. We don't track your searches, collect any personally identifiable data about you or serve ads. I'd love for this community to try us out and share feedback, we ship a new release every week!

We just shipped v 1.31 with the following enhancements:
- Better support for iCloud. Add any iCloud folder on your Mac just like a regular folder
- Search filters support (see screenshot) so you can search faster and more effectively
- Faster searches for mailboxes/cloud storage accounts with a lot of data

Feedback welcome!

Can you explain why Selectric is better than Spotlight for indexing and searching local disks?
Spotlight is amazing! In fact we started building Selectric because we wanted Spotlight-like search and convenience across all our mail and cloud storage accounts. The benefit we offer is a single search across your local storage, inbox(es) and cloud storage accounts so you don't have to remember where you saved something when you need to refer back to it a few weeks/months later.

We've been pleasantly surprised at how many of our initial users use Selectric to index their local folders as well. We invested in improving iCloud support in this release because of user feedback asking for it (we didn't originally think a lot of folks would use it).

Heads up -- your Discord link is currently expired. Very interested in this app, but want to get a bit more info before unleashing this on my own personal files.

Ah damn, my bad. Thanks for the heads up, I was wondering why nobody had joined the server last few days. Here's an updated link: https://discord.gg/RbYYU6mU

I'm happy to answer any questions you have either here or on the Discord

We focused on performance improvements last two weeks
- Searches work a lot faster especially when you have large amounts of data crawled. We've seen speed improvements up to 50% in our tests
- Indexing local folders is orders of magnitude faster and more battery efficient.
