Selling 13" MBP for new Air

Im looking at selling my current 13" MBP to snag one of the new airs. I want to make sure I won't be sacrificing too much power in the process though

1. My 13" MBP is the June 2009 revision. 2.53GHZ core 2 duo, 4GB of ram, and a 500GB seagate hybrid HDD.

2. I mainly use my computer for day to day Internet usage. I do video converting only a handful of times of a year, so while I know it won't be as powerful as my current MBP in that respect, I'm really not too concerned. I also use it for light/medium illustrator and Photoshop usage. I plan on going with the maxed out 13" Air (256 SSD, 4GB of ram, 2.13 processor). Will the air perform at least on par if not better then the 13" pro in these areas?

3. And finally...go for it or keep the 13" MBP? Advice appreciated.

Hey i just sold my 13 mbp today and ordered a 13.3 mba with 4gb.
I sold my stock 2010 mbp that was a month old for 950 locally. Which was pretty good considering that same laptop is 999 new from microcenter so i think getting 1000 for yours might be difficult. You should definitely try and sell it on craigslist over macrumors.

Im mainly going to be using mine for writing papers, browsing the net, emailing, chatting. For all heavy work i will use my imac.

The screen on the mba is beautiful and the resolution was one of the main reasons i dumped my mbp.

btw i had an owc ssd in my mbp .. i didnt sell it with my mbp .. selling seperately

According to the Macworld benchmarks the 1.86ghz 128gb 2gb 13.3 MBA has a benchmark score 2 points higher than the latest 13” MacBook Pro 2.4GHz (108 to 106)

And a maxed out MBA will perform even better...

I have the exact same MBP as you. I took the plunge today and ordered the 13" 4GB 1.86GHz MBA... AFTER it took my MacBook 10 min to finally load up Windows XP in the VMWares Fusion 3 I guess primarily due to slow harddrive speed while the time machine backup happened to be running concurrently. (CPU is 50% to 70% idle...)

I don't need firewire, I don't use DVDs anymore, and shedding the 1.6lbs makes this all worth it I think.

hey i am a 13 yr old freshman with a 2.66 ghz 4gb and 500 gb hd macbook pro 13 that i really want to upgrade to the macbook air 13 or 11 inch. I know my parents will be mad tho so i need to get someone who would pay the same exact amount i pid for it but i would throw in a samsung netbook and a bluetooth headset..lol.. this sounds pathetic... the 256 gb in flash memory will really be a life saver when it comes to opening apps and bootup.. that is the main reason i want the mba, the cheap ssd/flash memory

why not just buy a SSD drive for your MBP.

I think you are going to have a hard time finding someone to pay you exactly what you paid for the MBP. I would not do it. If I was gonna pay that much I would just go buy a new one myself. As far as the netbook, the person looking to buy a MBP is doing so to get away from windows, why get a netbook.

OR, maybe just be grateful for what your parents bought you and wait until you have a job and can buy one yourself.

That extra 40 seconds at boot and 2 seconds opening safari and itunes is going to be a life saver for you?

You are lucky to have a more expensive MacBook Pro as a 13 years old.

For a normal 13 years old (if it was my son), I would only give him my used MacBook (pro) that I no longer need/want

It is not like you will need to bring a laptop to school so weight shouldn't be a factor. You are better off with your existing MacBook Pro.

Note: no one is going to pay you the same price as they would have paid at Applestore.
