If I sell an apple product that I have previously registered under my name, can the new owner re-register it? I don't really understand how that sort of thing works, or what the benefit to registering the product is anyway (it is not under applecare).

I'm just worried that when I sell one of my apple products that the new owner can call up with the serial number and get my private information. I couldn't seem to find any link on the Apple site that showed me a list of products I had registered.

Well, I think it generally depends on the product. When I bought a used computer off ebay with Applecare, I just called them up, gave them the serial and told Apple I was transferring the computer to my name. I am not sure that it is super easy to find out the original owner's information, plus, why would that matter? I am sure you could call and transfer the registration to the new buyer as well.

but, since it is not under Applecare, i am not sure that you really have to worry since I don't think it will matter. But is this hardware or software? can anyone else confirm this?

Yeah, I believe when you register a computer or ipod, it really only is connected to Apple Care.

I remember when I found an ipod, they wouldn't help me fix it because it was registered to someone else and I couldn't verify the information.

They even gave the owner my phone number cause it was reported stolen, needless to say, I gave it back.
