Hi

I am selling my 4S to my brother in a few days when my iPhone 5 arrives. He wants to buy it jailbroken, but obviously wants to sync it with his own apps/data etc. What is the easiest way to do this?

Can I just go into the settings and reset all settings, or erase all content and settings? Will either of those remove my iTunes account, contacts, emails, messages etc without removing the jailbreak?

Or do I need to fully restore in iTunes and rejailbreak?

Thanks.

Mods can we PLEASE sticky one of these threads? At least for a few weeks while this dies down a little? Every single new thread is the exact same as the previously new thread. If you can, thanks! If not, I understand. Just a suggestion.

If you are jailbroken you can NOT use the reset all content button! If you opened any of the top 10 threads you would have seen this repeated a million times.

To completely wipe the phone, sign out of your iTunes account and restore as new. Or after its restored go into settings and log out of your iTunes account. If it must be jailbroken, wait for the new redsn0w to get released and re-restore your firmware as new. Once you upgrade to 6.0 you will never be able to downgrade to 5.1.1. The only way to restore to 5.1.1 is if you have your full blobs saved and you are still currently on 5.1.1.

Edit: OP, since the 4S is for your brother, you should just sign out of everything, delete all your apps, install iCleaner from cydia and run that, and erase all your browser's autofill forms. Just go through everything with a fine tooth comb and erase it all. This way if your iPhone 5 comes before the new redsn0w is released, you can give him the phone. Then when the new redsn0w is released he can re-restore to 5.1.1 as new if he so chooses only if you have both the 5.1.1 hash and apticket. See link above for more details. Good luck.

First thing you need to do is use google or search in this forum, this question has been asked countless times.

You can't use reset all on a jailbroken phone.

So it is the later

Ok, thanks. Apologies if the question has been asked before but I scanned the first page of threads and couldn't see anything which obviously addressed the question. Perhaps it's an issue with thread titling?

Anyway, sounds like I need to restore and re-jailbreak, which is a bit of a pain. Thanks for the link BumpyFlatline. Just one quick question about the jailbreak:

Cydia says I have SHSH: iOS 5.1.1. Does that mean I have the blobs so I can just shift-restore to any downloaded 5.1.1 ipsw, then run the jailbreak again?

Thanks.

You need an eye-exam than…

1/2 way first page:
Title: Any way to wipe all info but keep 5.1.1 on 4s?

Not at the moment, wait for the updated redsn0w which will allow 5.1.1-5.1.1 restores.

If cydia has your blobs (you didn't use tiny umbrella to save them?), you will use the new redsn0w to stitch those blobs to the 5.1.1 firmware IPSW. Then you will use the newly stitched firmware to restore to 5.1.1. You can't do this until the new redsn0w comes out.

Thanks dhlizard. I should do the same and just start posting links to threads wth ongoing discussions on this matter. It will save time for the OP's and contributing members. I don't want people to not ask for help but at the same time people should look for this information. A lot of times you can learn even more information from an entire thread with a full discussion as opposed to starting a new one and receiving just a couple answers.

Oh well. I put the over/under on 60 minutes before this exact same topic is started in a new thread. What? Too long? You're probably right....

Edit: Here are a couple more links for everyone with this question.

We are having the same issue on the blog I moderate on.
A dozens threads at the top with exact same question one after another.
Sadly, no one reads anymore.

Thanks all, apologies I missed that other obvious thread and that answered a lot of my questions. (The other 2 threads linked by dhlizard have pretty vague titles so not surprised I missed those).

Anyway, it sounds form one thread like it's possible to manually delete all my settings and info. Is this an option?

It's pretty amazing. I used this forum easily for a full year before joining. I found all of my answers by using the built in search feature or by using google. But I was able to find everything I needed. I only joined because I didn't want to just take from the forum anymore. I felt I was pretty knowledgeable in jailbreaking so I signed up to help others. I love being able to help. But when you're just repeating the same stuff every post in every thread it does get old. The reason I respond though is because we all know what happens. Said poster will just start clicking, downloading, restoring, jailbreaking and unlocking away until they come back and start a new thread panicking that their iPhone is "bricked". And that's way worse for everyone than just asking for help and receiving it!

Sorry for the rant everyone, especially the OP. This isn't specifically directed to you. And please if you are unclear on anything or need assistance don't hesitate to PM me or post a reply. Just keep your eye out for the new redsn0w. Luckily you're giving the phone to your brother. Another member posted this same exact thing yesterday and they were selling the 4s to a stranger the next day who requested the device be on 5.1.1 jailbroken. They wanted to re-install 5.1.1 as new to wipe it clean but could not.

Mstruve, I edited my original post. I lay out some basics for erasing your data off the phone. After those, you can use iFile and manually delete all the jailbreak tweaks and apps settings files so if your brother installs the same tweak as you, it won't automatically revert to your settings and how you had it set up.

Sorry but does anyone know if it would it be possible to do this when the OP gets his new phone:

1) plug the iPhone 5 in to iTunes and "set up as new"
2) back up the iPhone 5
3) plug the 4s in to iTunes and restore from back up of iPhone 5

Wouldn't that delete everything but the jailbreak?
Or even if it did delete everything wouldn't the 4s still be on 5.1.1 at least?

Sounds easy but ive never tried it. Has anyone else?

This will not work.

To further clarify, it won't work because the iPhone 5 will be on iOS 6, and you can't use a backup from a higher version OS to restore to a device on a lower version OS.

Thanks for all the help BumpyFlatline, much appreciated.

Manually deleting everything sounds like it's going to be a bit too time-consuming. Hopefully the new Redsnow will come out in time and I can re-restore to 5.1.1 as new.

If not I think I'll just restore to iOS6 and jailbreak it. Anyone know when we're likely to see a jailbreak for that?

Put it this way -- the new redsn0w that allows you to reinstall 5.1.1 will certainly come out *before* the 6.0 jailbreak. There's a slight chance the two could come out at the same time, but I think that's rather unlikely.

Ok, thanks Night Spring. I presume by that you mean that the 6.0 jailbreak is a little way off yet.

Where is the best place to keep an eye out for the new version of Redsn0w?

Great, thanks again.

I'm regretting now not backing up my blobs with tiny umbrella. I just thought this wasn't necessary any more as they are backed up by Cydia.

Is there any way to find out for sure now whether I'm going to be able to use the blobs saved in Cydia to restore to 5.1.1 in Redsn0w when it comes out?

Haven't followed what's up with that since I started saving my blobs with TU, but see if this helps:
http://www.idownloadblog.com/2012/05/25/save-your-shsh-blobs-5-1-1/

I have no idea if this video is any good, because my hearing isn't good enough to follow the audio, but if not, try googling "SHSH blobs Cydia" and hopefully you can find something.

Ok my new phone arrived today, but it doesn't look like the new Redsn0w is out yet.

Am I ok to transfer my data to the new nano SIM and restore the new phone from my last backup? It won't make any difference to the 'blobs' on the 4S or risk not being able to re-restore to 5.1.1?

Thanks. Sorry if these are stupid questions.

You can get the blobs from cydia using TinyUmbrella by going in to TU advanced tab and checking Get SHSH from Cydia and after that in the TU main page hit save SHSH. This was mentioned earlier in 1 of the replies.

Yes you can transfer your data, blobs are device specific, has nothing to do with your itunes backup.

Thanks very much. I've saved the SHSH to my computer but presumably there's nothing I can do with them until the new Redsn0w comes out?

Thanks for the confirmation re transferring data.

All you have to do is log out of most of the apps. Some you just have to delete and then re-click them in itunes and re-sync to get them back on the iphone. Most of the time they have to be re-logged onto. This should work for just about everything and it doesn't take long.
