Thanks for the info. This is really only to sell it, so someone can enjoy it in it's 'new form'. Is there another way to do it so I don't need to purhcase the disks?

Cheers!

short answer - No.

longer answer, you'll beed to borrow someone's compatible discs so you can perform the tasks you specify.
I'm blowed if I'd buy a Mac without install discs though, thus you may need to think this thru and spend $50 to add $ to the value of your sale.

I agree. Or the buyer will want a HUGE discount (relative to the cost of replacing the disks) for the hassle of having to replace missing disks. I think the OP will probably get a few hundred dollars less as it seems like a lesser deal to the buyer who gets a hassle as their first experience with their new Mac. I have seen this a lot where computers seem to get "dumped" when they're missing something as simple as a few install disks, or a $20 broken part or whatever. People want to pay a lot less since they know it will be a hassle and don't know how much it will cost themselves. Therefore, I would say the OP would be best off replacing the disks and selling it "complete."

One other thing is buyer's often feel that a laptop might be stolen if it's "missing" parts that aren't needed when portable away from desk. Most "legitimate" owners have boxes, disks, manuals, and any accessories the computer ships with. This provides assurance to the buyer that the computer is probably not stolen. I would spend the money and plan on selling it for full price.
