Selling my iMac

Hi just wanted a bit of advice. I want to sell my iMac on eBay to buy a new Mac.

Here are the specs:

1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
512 MB RAM
160GB HDD
Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.10
Apple wired keyboard
Apple wired Mighty Mouse
Apple Front Row remote

It's in perfect condition.

Currently partitioned with Tiger on 130GB worth of the HDD and genuine Windows XP SP2 on 60GB worth. Would I sell with this or just totally reformat?

Seriously though, if you're going to sell it, repartition the drive to a single volume. Then reformat your drive and do a 7 pass erase free space, then reinstall OS X. If you just reformat any skilled user could recover some of your personal data, and that, as we all know, is not cool.

Just to be safe do a 99 pass erase. They WILL take time but are said to be absolutely safe. Just leave it on for ever!

A 7 time pass will be the best route. I would also git rid of the Win volume. That will prevent you from doing any 7 pass and leave all personal information there for the new owner to dig through your stuff. Also the Win XP install will not bring you every much if any more cash from the sale.

Actually 1 pass is good enough for most users. At the very least it prevents software recovery of your old data.

If you want to be truly safe from someone who would use electronic microscopes to dissect your drive platters, even Peter Gutman's 35 pass is no longer enough for modern drives.

If you deal with such sensitive data to start with just turn on file vault and encrypted virtual memory straight out of the box and ensure that the data never touches your disk platters naked.

Are you sure you don't have an Intel Core Duo, instead of Core 2 Duo?

I would also mention the screen size.
