Hi..
I have a 2nd generation iPod Touch which has been upgraded to 4.2.1 latest.

And iPhone 4, which is running 4.3.2.

Im selling off my iPhone 4 today.
So, took its backup.

I want to restore its complete backup to my iPod Touch , but not able to.

What to do ?

Why is it not allowing me to do ?

I believe you need to sync your contacts, notes, and calendar to your Mac. Then, when you set up your iPod, select those to sync back to it.

You might want to consider moving your contacts and calendar to google. Then, no matter what device you have, you can just sync it with your google account over the air.

It's not an iPhone, therefore it cannot receive an iPhone software restore. They are two different things with very different pieces of hardware.

I was able to restore my 3GS's backup to my iPod touch just fine. It's probably a limitation of the 2nd gen touch stuck on 4.2.1.

EDIT:

OP, do this to sync your contacts/calendars to Google: http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138740&topic=14252

I use Google Sync to keep multiple devices and OS's in sync.

Yep. It's the software level, not the difference between iPhone and iPod. My initial setup of my iPad was a restore of my (then) iPhone 2G.

I don't believe this for one second. How?

What don't you believe iFiend?

I use Google Sync to synchronize my Mac OSX computers, my iPod touch and my Xoom/Nexus S and ZTE Blade's calendars and contacts on all devices.

It works perfectly for me. :)

Damn, BS Apple!

That means, whatever I spent on iPhone Apps are going be useless and I have t buy them again ?

And , is there a way, I can transfer the iPhone purchases to the friend's Apple account, who is buying the iPhone, since those apps wetre bought from my account and in order to update them, he would need my account, which I cant share.

You actually may be able to restore the backup to an iPad. All you can do is try it.

You can restore to an iPad looking at post number 6 of this thread.

As for the apps, you cab redownload your apps as many times as you like to any device/iTunes activated with your login. Your apps should all be available in iTunes library, ready to sync to another device.

As for sharing your apps. You can only do that if you have it set up as your iPhone still. Your purchases are linked to your iTunes account, not the phone. Whoever is having the iPhone off of you will have to buy their own apps.
