Selling wow accounts?

I have played wow since... Well, pretty much day one, but starting a few months ago a combination of lack of interest and tons of added work meant not really playing any more. So since I haven't run the app in a couple months I am considering dumping it. The question is, is it worth the hassle to try and sell the account? I dont know anything about buying/selling accounts, what it might be worth, or how to do it, anyone have any experience and can give me some pointers?

I believe it is against the TOS to sell an account/character. So the way to do it without it getting taken off ebay is to do something like sell a "Leveling / Gold Making Guide" with a free character, etc. for "practice".

I could google it, and have, but google is not the repository of all known knowledge, and what I was looking for was personal experience. Beside, mostly google returns hits about buying accounts or cheap scam looking sites.

Not that it matters, it wasn't to make money, but because I never plan on using it again, and hey, why not someone else benefit from the work I put into it?

At one time I sold my WoW Beta account (original WoW) for over $400 less then 2 weeks before it went on sale. I did sell it via ebay. I know Blizzard doesn't like it, but if you post it on eBay and it gets removed, it may still go through with whoever wants it if they acted fast enough.

FYI I just checked eBay; there are a TON of accounts for sale. But most are so outrageously priced they have 0 bids. Level 80 (anything) isn't worth $500+. Even one account offering 7 level 80's asking $1000+ but has 0 bids. There was one that had 22 bids, it's current price is $75 for a level 85. Let the market dictate your price. If you truly just want to sell it to get out something you put in, then start it at $25 and let it get bid up. I'm guessing it will go for somewhere between $75 and $100. (And don't be stupid by posting your characters name, or server)

Understood. That was my way of not talking about here. BTW, you end up selling your in-game identity, I'm not sure how that effects your Battle Net account.

I don't know what the rates are today, but if you have a collectors edition, it's worth more. The CD key itself went for $900+ on ebay recently. The New Box goes for $2000-$3000 arround.

Presumming you didn't go cheap and ruin the CE account with a regular expansion, I'm sure you can fetch more than $100. Look at the "completed listings" to get an idea of value.

I have no opinion on selling a WoW account, except that it is problematic if you use your Battlenet account for anything else.

However, buying a WoW account is a terrible idea. Even if you change the password and email address to yours, the original owner can call support, claim the account was hacked, and reset everything back to him after proving his identity via FAXed driver's license.

So someone can sell you their WoW account, wait for positive feedback, wait the 90 days or whatever the dispute resolution limits are, then yank it back. You will have zero recourse.

Every character in the account gets a "pet". Mini Diablo, Zergling, of Baby Panda. It includes all created characters. The only difference between a new CD-Key and an old one is your login name is not set. And the risk that Blizzard somehow detects that the account was transfered by some method of course.

That wasn't the way they originally worked. You can get Original WoW collectors editions on eBay (accounts) for $100 to $200. So why are some boxes asking for $2000? Something has to be different.

Maybe the boxes are meant to be unopened? Plus there's other stuff inside it.

But I would guess that if you have an original CE that has been expanded by non-CE, it doesn't have the "CE value" anymore.

The cheap ones have had their CD keys used to create accounts. So you're just buying the art book, the CD, etc. You don't get an on-line account with the special pets.

The expensive ones are unopened, and presumably have usable CD keys.
