As the title says "SemiTethered" jailbreak is now available on Cydia. You can now reboot away from a computer but of course there's some Pro and Cons.

Sounds very promising, but I will wait a few days to see how it works for others before installing it myself.

My roommate just tried it after I told him the same thing and now his ip4 is all screwed up. He is restoring as we speak...

Didn't work for me either. Stuck on Apple Logo, had to use redsn0w to boot.

Yeah, I tried it out and it caused my phone to restart about a minute after booting tethered. I was able to open Cydia and uninstall semi-tether. Everything was fine once I was able to uninstall it.

Update: I checked the Big Boss website and it says they just recently updated it. It shouldn't randomly reboot anymore.

Unfortunately, I will still most likely get the "exploit failed" while trying to boot tethered for the first time after the initial jailbreak. Maybe if I try a version of redsn0w before 0.9.9b6. Eh, ah well, I'll just wait for a real untethered jailbreak.

It's been updated It does work now. I wish I had this last week. I had just gotten to work and wasn't completely awake. One radio app wasn't working for me and stupid me didn't respring... I rebooted, which rendered my i4 unusable until I could get home and re-jailbreak it.

I am very interested in this tweak, especially now that it has been updated. I wish more people tried out the update so we could see if it still has problems.

Installed it on my ip4.

So far works perfectly. My phone actually crashed after trying out a "widget" from cydia. Rebooted fine and just as advertised safari, mail and cydia didn't work but everything else did.

Rebooted from redsnow when I got home. Everything back to normal.

Honestly I can live with this semi-tethered solution.

I thought I would chime into the thread and give my very basic, mini review of the semi-tethered jailbreak. I have an AT&T iPhone 4, 32GB.

I've had it semi-tethered now for 3 days. In short, I have had zero issues. It just works. I've gone as far as testing the full reboot to see how it works, and I was able to use my phone without issue. Of course, as has already been mentioned, Safari doesn't work after a reboot and neither does the mail app (or cydia of course).

Way better than tethered, just barely not as good as untethered. If anyone is on the fence, I'd suggest giving it a try.

One thing I have experienced that I haven't seen much mention of for the semi-tether on iOS5 is that my carrier signal strength is stuck at 1 bar. I'm on the original baseband (01.59.00). I can still make/receive calls - it just appears that the signal strength is inaccurate.

It's a known issue using an older baseband with a newer firmware. The fix is to install ultrasn0w, but that doesn't work together with the semi-tether. Luckily it's just a display glitch, so you don't really have as bad of a signal as it seems.

I usually don't pay attention to the signal honestly; it's either I have one or I don't, or the call gets dropped or it doesn't. haha. But since it's stuck at one bar, I tend to "focus" on it even though it doesn't impact my ability to use.

It's a very minor annoyance overall. I'd rather keep the 1.59 bb version.

Hm... That's weird. I don't have any problems with my signal bar staying at one with the jailbreak or semi-tethered.
