To turn your iOS device into a wireless speaker/headphone.

This seems like such a no-brainer feature. Wireless headphones are always so bulky & expensive. ...granted it might be a drain on the battery, but you're home anyway, and then you could use ANY headphones (earbuds, cans...whatever) wirelessly.

Does anyone know if this is possible? ...via app, 3rd party hardware, or hack?

I know Rogue [amorphous organism] (not trying to advertise) has a reverse audio app for Mac that will transmit audio from a mac to your iOS device, but I'm looking for general TV audio (cable, DVDs, games, ...etc) transmission.

Thanks, T.

you could use airfoil, to do it, just go into the line-in jack on your mac,
But...
there is a couple second delay in audio due to buffering, so it would be highly annoying.

http://plexapp.com/ will let you slide the audio in relation to the video, so if you were using that in conjunction with airfoil, it would work.

Pretty sure this won't work, unless the TV is designed to transmit audio. With a normal TV, how is the iOS device supposed to get access to the audio? The TV would have to have the capability built-in.

Seeing how new TVs are getting more and more apps, this might actually become practical in the future (heck, there might be TVs that can already do this). However, if your TV doesn't have any airplay-like capability, this would not be possible.
